I guess I am the most recent member of the "waiting-to-receive-my-thinkpad" group. I ordered a T60 on Sept. 19th, with an estimated delivery date of Sept. 26, which sounded pretty good to me. However, the last update to the UPS tracking info says that on the 21st my shipment encountered an "exception". Interesting comments as to what the exception was..."The airline off-loaded packages causing a delay." It appears that my shipment has not recovered from the exception yet. As of today-24th- no change in status. So, I am more confused than ever about when I'll get my new thinkpad. I saw another post in this thread where someone else had an exception, is this common? I have had a lot of orders sent by UPS, none from overseas though, and never ran across this before.

Hi,
funny, I'm just seing an answer to that thread, when I learnt I can go get my Thinkpad in the Fedex office.
Originally, I asked to go get it myself, last thursday, as it was scheduled to be available on friday, and I could not stay home all day. BUT, it was stuck in customs for clearance, so I called Friday morning at 11 to say "yes, I'm ok to pay VAT" (I'm in France and ordered from Euclid), BUT, it was too late for the part to travel from the aiport to Paris (25 Km). AND, nothing can happen on the week ends....
So My thinkpad had been 25 Km away from me for 3 days for no reason, but hey, now I'll get it

, and hey, maybe that's France?
I would have prefered to be delivered then, but when I called on Saturday to change the plan, the voice message at the customer service said the service is open Mo-Fr only. So this morning they said "if you want it delivered, it can't be today" - NO WAY now
Going NOW!!!!!
bets,
Amaury

Well, my request to Lenovo as to what is happening with my shipment was an exercise in futility. It is sitting in KR, and has been for roughly 5 days now, and for the reasons that I found on the UPS site, I didn't get any information that I didn't already have. I will still get it, according to Lenovo, and I am sure that is true, but exactly when is something that no one has been able to tell me. The frustration factor is high today. Seeing so many posts on shipping issues has made me wonder if I shouldn't have ordered from someone else, or maybe a different unit. Time will tell. I hope others are having better luck with their shipment.

Mine's been further delayed due to the availability of 15" screens. I asked to have the shipping upgraded to next day business. Apparently they can't do that wiouth canceling the entire order. That has to be one of the worst process I have come accross.

Just received mine today. Ordered from Lenovo on 9/5 with an estimated ship date of 9/22. Several people who ordered after me already received theirs so I just thought I would call and check. I was told that the flexview screens were in very short supply and backordered until mid to late October. I asked about cancelling and told the rep I was going to see the status on another computer and then cancel the following day. I didn't actually cancel.
The next day on 9/19, I received a shipping confirmation stating that my PC was being shipped overnight express.
There was an exception with UPS and it was held up in customs for a day or two and then the weekend. I finally received it today 9/25.
Technically, it shipped a few days early and I suspect they worried I would cancel and upgraded my shipping.
I'm very happy with my new computer so far. Just finished all the updates and now busy installing apps...

It now looks like my thinkpad may get here today. When I heard from Lenovo yesterday morning I didn't get any useful information as mentioned in my last post, however, I had emailed them back and indicated that if the shipment was sitting in KR, as it had been for several days according to them, then I might have to take another route as I was not a happy camper. So later yesterday evening I checked UPS again, and my shipment was now in Kentucky and this morning I checked and it is in town here and out for delivery. In all fairness I do not believe that Lenovo was the problem, I suspect that for some reason UPS did not update the tracking information as they should have. But hopefully everything is ok now, and this afternoon after morning classes I will be happily loading SUSE on my new Thinkpad. I do have to mention that I am glad I found this forum. I have read many of the threads and I am impressed with what I see, a lot of good tips and friendly, knowledgeable people.

or you can order from third party vendors if you really want a T60p with the 15" display like I did. Some are offering pretty good deals.

My order for the T60p has been delayed again - this time till 27/10/06. That's almost two months after placing the inital order.

What are you basing that on? Lenovo customer services assured me that I will get it. Mind you, I have little faith in their promises anymore.

Nonsense!!!. As you know I live in Colombia, after a long search I finally ordered a T60 model 200765S on Sept 12. The sales rep, someone from Argentina, has been telling me very confusing data, wrong customer and order numbers!!! and I have been unable to track my order status, they said it would take arround 1 1/2 months!!! to arrive, the reason such model wasn't in stock and had to be manufactured. As of today I don't know when the notebook will arrive.
I would like to know if somebody has a link to a Lenovo's international web page where I can track it? The Rep never knows anything and is always saying "Let me find out and I will call back to you..."
The Lenovo's customer service is blatantly deficient in Latin America... so don't worry you who are experiencing some days delay... I think mine will arrive by Christmas... (Would they send it with some plus as a token for the inconveniences.... )

I haven't ordered a T60 yet, but I will someday.
Nevertheless I would like to know your opinion about when I will get one

Bill I've phoned the sales rep who is in charge of my order, it was asigned by Lenvovo after I placed the internet's order. However... all the information receveided is confusing and even contradictory, different order numbers, different dates to delivery... today the count goes by 33 days after I paid and don't know when the notebook will arrive... Thats what I call a deficient customer service... Shoud I mail Mr. Amelio as you suggest? Are you kidding?

I've emailed the CEO of Verizon Wireless(Dennis Strigl) with GREAT results in the past. So if it comes down to it, give it a shot. I actually received a resply back from the CEO saying that a corporate officer would be in contact with me soon to discuss my problem. Needless to say, I got my problem fixed
The charge for my laptop never posted to my credit card, it was listed as a pending transaction for a few days, but now it's gone. I guess it'll post once the laptop ships? It's scheduled to ship on the 19th, so hopefully it will!

T60 UT0FRCF 2007-FRG
Should be here on Saturday
Now, on lenovo's site, my serial number is supposedly "non-existant". Also, this model should be the SXGA+ model, however using the product look up tool, it tells me its only XGA? :S
This ibm site tells me something different again
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... esite=cema
:S
Either way, hope it will serve me well

Well done, if that worked, could anybody give me a hint to find out the email adress of a top sales executive for Latin America? I'll give it a try.

My T60's estimated shipping date is tomorrow(10/19). I hope it ships tomorrow, I sold my other laptop a couple weeks ago(not knowing it takes IBM/Lenovo 3 weeks to build a laptop).
Is there any set time that the order tracking site is updated/refreshed with new data? Like could it happen at any point throughout the day, or does the site update itself at midnight or something like that?

As of this morning, my new 'estimated shipping date' is 11/14/2006.

1600x1200 T60p finally shipped (EDU)

Hi everybody,
ever since I got hold of a T60 for 2 weeks, I could hardly wait getting one myself.
This forum's news about the discontinuation of the 1600x1200 displays had shocked me. In spite of having little hopes, on Oct 6th I ordered (EDU) a 15"T60P which was stated "in stock". The original shipping est. was Oct10th.
Great, I thought, EDU's must still have some stocked away. Then, each day around 4-6pm the shipping date was postponed a day or two.
Calling customer support gave me originally only "it should ship a max of 7 days after ordering"...Wonderful, this time had already past when I had made the call...
Keeping in mind, that I'll be in Europe for 2months starting November, I got quite nervous about the idea of the new thinkpad waiting somewhere here, while I would be in Europe.
So I called again after the weekend and a nice rep confirmed the lack of the screens. Furthermore when I had started talking about cancelling the order, he stated that sometimes the order just happened to have been shipped shortly before the cancellation form had arrived at the shipping facility. This sounded vaguely familiar from some post here.
Though I did not dare to cancel. But I asked him to do whatever he could. Then I repeated the line from that post in this forum here(sorry cannot find the post anymore, Thx a lot whover posted it), that I would check for an alternative laptop around and call again about cancelling the last possible day.
Luckily I was spared that call and the shipping was not anymore postponed, so est arrival of the package,if UPS is right, is next week.
UPS delivery type is "ground" though.
@Mallow
Sorry to hear about your long delay, I experienced the rising hope before and annoyance after checking the est shipping date. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones whose Thinkpad ships early.
My experience about the update times is vague, since I was not checking continuesly or in any pattern.
@all
Thanks for this threat, it helped a lot to bear my - rarely short - wait. Crossing my fingers for all the ones left waiting.
Flo

My new T60 shipment's update:
Part Nr: 200765S
Ordered on: 09/12/06
Initial delivery estimate: "Between 1 and 11/2 months"
2nd estimate: (after much pressure on Sales rep) : 10/23/06
3rd estimate: (as of yesterday) 10/30/06
As you see all dates in one are according with the first vague estimate. The problem with this guys is that information is not clear, they always doubt, contradict themselves and try to calm you down giving anticipated dates... which dissapoint you every morning you find out the crude reality...

I called this morning, and was told that they are out of 1GB memory chips, But they will be in by early next week and then my Thinkpad will ship. If it doesn't, I'm going to cancel my order.
They really need to work on their supply issues

I agree Mallow, It seems to me that they don't have a real fitted procurement software that may keep all data on an order gathered in one place accesible to all intersted people... would it be possible? or is it a plain lack of inventory, common in the history of Thinkpad.
It is told that sometime by 1993, Lou Gerstner IBM's President received a ransom note made with pieces of newspaper that said:
" Ok! listen & listen good, you have what I need and I want it NOW!. I'm desperate! This is the only chance I have to prove to you I mean business. So, put one of these (Thinkpad image) in a brown paper bag and wait further instruction".
Did you know that? The morale behind the story is that the wait is worthy of that, we will get a highly demanded machine and a one too difficult to get...
In the meantime, and if everything fails, there is the option of cancelling the order and wait for the brand new Core 2 Duo systems.... another 3 months waiting in the line... do you mind?
Greetings to all of you my dear friends and thanks for the support...

I can't be arsed to wait - the idea of waiting again is too much, I'll live with my lowly 14" core duo, with that beloved 1gb stick

I am in the same predicament, however, if the notebook doesn't arrive on the last due date I will cancel the order and ask for a full money refund...

I decided to cancel my order. But I ordered another one. The one I ordered is a T60p with a Core 2 Duo. So I'm happy. I guess I will have to wait another few weeks, but I think it'll be worth it.
