T60 195144U issues
T60 195144U issues
Hi All,
I received my T60 (195144U - T2400, 512MB, 60GB, 14.1, ABG) yesterday and installed it. I am having some issues
1. Fan noise: The fan is constantly on (well almost, it will stop but start right again when I move the mouse....) Temps are around the 40c for idle/light load but the fan is on all the time. (I am using mobmeter for the temps, it will not read the current CPU speed - can't read dual core) CPU-Z shows it correctly
2. When I close the lid and open it, sometimes it changes my Display Scheme from LCD to LCD + External monitor (by itself)
Well that's it for now, in general, after having 600X, T20, T21, T40, T41, and now T60. I like the speed and Lenovo did not change the ThinkPad feel that I liked from the previous IBM T series.
If anyone has the same model or the same issues on other models, please let me know if there is a fix or patch or anything.
I know that IBM had some problems with fan controll on the T40's and they had a patch for it, hopefully Lenovo has/will have the same soon.
Thanks in advance,
ZX

Hi ZX,
Yes sometimes I had the same lid problem with my old A31, but no conlusion
Question: Did the fan runs all the time? That sounds bad currently I am using a T43 (14.1") where the fan runs the hole time. I want to by a T60, but if the T60 fan is the same as the T43 this is really bad! I hoped that Lenovo had done better work and the fan is not always on.
Best regards,
Mark

Since the laptop is probably controled the same way as the z60m, DO NOT USE NOTEBOOK HARDWARE CONTROL!!
It locks and fudges with the fan and temp monitoring, and locked my cpu and gpu fans at a low speed. For normal use this didn't matter much, but I bluescreen'd it twice while playing Halflife 2.
Use something like thinkpad fan control instead if you can. It worked on my z60m just fine.

Is the fan at the bottom of the laptop ?
How hot does the machine gets ? General feel, I cant gaze the heat based on numbers ... please thanks
Not all the time. It stops for a few seconds and then starts again. I called IBM and they don't have record of this problem. The told me to take it to a service center... I don't have time now to do it. He checked the latest bios version and emb. cont. version and I have the latest.mark22 wrote:Hi ZX,

I guess I will wait a week or 2 for a fix from IBM/Lenovo.

It is not getting hot at all. That's what I don't get. The fan is just running and the machine is not working.
I found something that helps read the temps on TP but will not control the fan on T60.

For me this sounds bad, a allt time runnig fan with little breaks, that does not supports me in buying a T60.ZX6Rman wrote:Not all the time. It stops for a few seconds and then starts again. Well I wouldn't rule out all the T60s. Maybe it is a problem only with 1951-xxx which are the first T60s that they made.mark22 wrote:

Also there is another guy that has the same model without this problem. So it might be only my laptop.
I will post if there is a fix for it.
NHC and TPFC do not control the same thing :own6volvos wrote:Since the laptop is probably controled the same way as the z60m, DO NOT USE NOTEBOOK HARDWARE CONTROL!!

- NHC manages voltages
- TPFC controls fan speed
They work both very well -- it's just a question of config. NHC does not lock cpu and gpu fans at all as it can't control them. If you have BSODs you most probably downclocked too much your cpu and/or gpu. If you want to have both NHC and TPFC running together, disable temp readings in NHC to avoid conflicts. I have both softwares running on my t42p just fine.

Something with NHC just open (I change no settings, I just like to watch the power draw) made my fans get locked in the low speed. Cycling was really odd, as it would be slow when hot, super fast when like 34C. I noticed the trend after it locked and bluescreen twice playing HL2, and my gpu/cpu temps were in the high 80's. Killing NHC and removing it from the system, brought system temps when under 100% load, or playing games to be low 60's.bebzif wrote:NHC and TPFC do not control the same thing :own6volvos wrote:Since the laptop is probably controled the same way as the z60m, DO NOT USE NOTEBOOK HARDWARE CONTROL!!

Something in the way NHC locks in on the ACPI bus really screws with the z60m's automatic fan control setup.
Yesterday I watched 2 T60s on the CeBit and the fans of the books are running. Unfortunately, the surroundings are very loud, thus I am unable to detect/hear how loud the ThinkPad fan is.
The second T60 was at the Intel stand with many other notebooks, like the new Samsung P50. The only notebook with always on fan was unfortunately the T60
Greetings,
Mark

1. Do you run the notebook with the lowest performance setting? (max battery life) Is the fan still active?
2. Do you hear a hard drive noise? Can you look who manufactured it?
3. How is the 14" screen, bright enough and color stable or do you have issues there?
4. How long does the battery last? Really 5 hours?
Thanks
