T60 Fingerprint Scanner

#1 Post by jdebord » Tue Mar 14, 2006 1:43 am

My T60 arrived today - love it!

Only one problem so far - I think the fingerprint scanner may be faulty. The first time I ran it, it scanned for one tutorial. Then got kind of sketchy the next two runs, in that it was unresponsive. Now it won't read anything.

I assume it's faulty hardware? Anything I can try before calling tech support?

Try these two things:

1. If you are docked, undock and try again.
2. Unplug your ethernet cable and try again.

Any difference?

Thanks for the reply - I'm actually not docked and I'm using an not Ethernet cable (all wireless). Any other ideas?

Try other locations; I have seen this happen and I can only chalk it up to interference of some kind since the FPRs on the Thinkpads use fringe-capacitance. HTH :)

Hmm... I tried at work and home - no difference with that either.

At this point, it just doesn't do anything. The first few times, I could see my print on the screen - now it just times out after a bit with nothing.

Does this happen with all fingers or just one? At this point, I am leaning towards it being a tad screwy. You might want to look at having that replaced. :?

Strange, if it doesn't work...It shouldn't worked the first time either.

Yeah, I tried different fingers, different speeds, different angles... Nothing seems to work. It's as though it's not "on".

Hopefully it's something that they can fix on-site - I just finished moving all my files off both my work and home PCs...

Not being familiar with the reader can it be controlled in bios? Maybe disable and re-enable. Is it seen in system hardware? Maybe removing and re-scan and install the device.

Thanks for that suggestion! I went into Device Manager, and it was listed as "Biometric" -> "TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor". I disabled it, then reenabled it, and now it seems to work fine.

Thanks to everyone for the assist - it is appreciated.
