feeling about my T60

I received my T60(20074CU 1.83GHz, 60G 5400, X1300, SXGA+) yesterday. Overall it is quiet and high speed (about 2 times faster than T43 2G I tested before). The good news is T43 fan control can be used on this machine. Fan is on most of time, but it is soft. Fan control shows the fan speed is about ~2900rpm most of the time. For T43 it is ~3200rpm, for T42 it is about ~2800 to ~2900rpm. So it is definately quieter than T43. The highest temperature reading in fan control is still GPU, about 56-60 most time.

Hitachi Feature Tool 2.0 can not change the SATA disk setting. NHC 1.10 beta 1 can control the acoustic level of the disk. But it still can not control CPU and ATI card.

I also test the machine under Linux WS 4. The fan is always on, noiser than uder Window XP. Anyone else has test T60 under Linux, and find a good way to make it quieter?

I read on the forum that u are not to use CHC with the T60s yet.

Have fun

What did you mean when saying "... Overall it is quiet...", the fan is not disturbing, even in a silent ambience? Because the fan noise of my T43 is disturbing my most of the time. On my T43 die GPU temperature is about 40-50 most of the time

In a silent ambience, you can hear the hard drive platter rotating sound and fan blowing. They are about the same noise level. If you can stand the hard drive platter rotating noise, there should be no problem for the fan noise. I think most 2-platter 5400rpm or 7200rpm hard drives have such kind of rotating noise. I returned a T43 because the disturbing fan noise problem.

Just want to confirm: in addition to Fan RPM display, can you actually shut off the fan and change fan speed on the T60?

After reading this I scrambled to see what speed HDD you are using. I'm glad that it's a 5400. I would not have a problem with that. If you had a 7200RPM then I would be concerned. :D
