Anyone thinking of getting the Macbook Pro vs. T60P

So what resolution is it running at now? It still looks like 1280x1024 which seems to be the max setting for OSX on a PC.

1600x1200x32 on my R50p

If you can figure out how to get my T41 with Radeon 9000 to run at 1400x1050 with OSX 10.4.5 you'll keep me from going to the dark side. I can get 1280x1024 with whatever drivers or modified drivers come on that lovely install CD, but that's really not good enough.

edit: Nevermind, I found instructions, I didn't see them before for some reason. Yay, just saved $2500.

I actually got a chance to play with the Macbook Pro this weekend at the Mall of America. They had a great set up for people to just come through and play with them.

While I thought that they seemed nice and powerful, I didn't care for the seemingly wasted space on the keyboard bezel. I mean I know that you will have the extra space due to the size of the display, but the keys on the keyboard looked smaller than that of a Thinkpad, making the base seem that much larger.

Also, each one that I played with was VERY hot to the touch, but then again they were on all day long. It was almost too hot for me to touch, much less use for an extended amount of time.

On a side note: I think that I like the black color of the Thinkpad even more now, because the silver on the Macbook Pro was almost distracting. Then again, I have been using black Thinkpads for a while, and I am sure that I would get "used" to the silver.

Tell you what: if the MBP had its heat and whine issues sorted out, I probably would have gone that route over the T60p. As it stands, I'm still tempted, and I have a perfect T60p at home (which I like very, very much).

I'm very disappointed at all the bloatware Lenovo preloads, however. Anyone know how to get rid of the Symantec crap? Seriously -- is there an easy uninstall?

Most MacBook Pros do not have the whine noise issue (mine is completely silent, as is my cousin’s, and many of my peers have completely silent MacBook's). It reminds me of the Intel SpeedStep issues (and the processor noise) with a large batch of ThinkPad T30's and the fix of this issue that was posted on the Intel site. Regarding the heat, the MacBook does get warmer than the T60, but part of that has to do with the case materials. It does not get too warm to use on your lap, although there were a few units that had faulty fans and these would be too hot to use on your lap. I am very satisfied with this computer.

Search for RNAV on the Symantec site which you will run AFTER the uninstall. Norton products are very difficult to properly remove. After you run this I would run a registry cleaner such a JV16.

The best thing to do is do a complete fresh install.

I actually, made a customized winxp install CD for the T60p. Works great. All drivers get installed during the winxp setup automatically. all the current winxp hotfixes were slipstreamed. I also removed the bloated winxp install. i.e., msn messenger, windows media player, windows tour, etc. All gone. The memory profile is less than 200 MB.

if someone has a FTP server that can stay on for the thinkpads.com community, then I'm more than willing to share. download burn the cd, boot cd, and install away. The one request is that the FTP remain active. i.e., I don't want a few users to download it and then the FTP is gone.
