T60 issue log

#1 Post by bart » Fri Mar 17, 2006 5:09 pm

Hello, I have a 2007-68U on order. Thought it will be a nice idea to log all issues being reported on the forum in a single thread.

For issues reported so far, will log issues and link threads that have reported them.

T60 users who have received their thinkpads, incase you have any issues, please log in this thread and link to your issue thread.

Will help everybody I hope.

own6volvos - Horrible experiences with 3945ABG

Wow, there is almost nothing good I can say about this card, besides it doesn't catch on fire.

Can't keep connection. (drops and whatnot)

Freezes card and IBM software doesn't know wtf

Connection just *stops*, times out, and wireless software thinks everything is ok.

When it does work, connection is around 50-60% when 10 feet from the base station. The old Atheros card could be a few hundred feet off in the driveway and pushing 80%.

Is there some crazy "work" setting I am missing here?

T60 - Fan problems

#3 Post by bart » Fri Mar 17, 2006 5:19 pm

ghanwani - T60 - fan is on continuously

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=21974
The fan on my T60 seems to be on all the time
even when doing next to nothing on the laptop.
It's not noisy, but I can hear it and I can feel the
slight draft of air coming out from the left side.
Is this something that is expected? I had heard
about fan issues on the T43, but I thought the T60
had fixed that problem. The laptop does run very
cool, though.

One more fan issue reported here -

15" T60 guys... For those who already own one

own6volvos - 15" T60 guys... For those who already own one

1st question: If you have the unit on a flat hard table, and use one hand to open the screen, with the other holding the units down, can you see some slight movement of the hinge connection piece (the shiney metal thing) on the left side of the laptop (near the power buttons). If you move the screen up and down, pay attention to the position of the hinge base compared to the bezel around the keyboard. The right hinge on mine is 100% solid when doing this, the left hinge has just a wee bit of movement.

2nd question: If you press down mildly hard above the "mute" button, can you hear the "nipping" sound of the fan making contact with something around it. This one caught me off gaurd a bit. I am guessing the fan is directly under this area.

These 2 things are making me wonder if something might be loose in that area, and some input from other guys/gals with the same size screen might be able let me know if this isn't just on my model.

EDIT: Oh yea, if you lift the screen up from either of the corners on my laptop, the left side hinge squeezes a good amount.

Trackpoint smudges LCD

stupormunky1 - Trackpoint smudges LCD

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=22039
After carrying around my T60 for a while, I open it up and there are the criss crosses of the trackpoint. It's only leaving a smudge right now, but I am worried about it affecting the LCD over the long term. Does anyone else have similar experiences?

While a nice idea, posting a description and a quote of each post makes it hard to read. Not to mention, you don't need to make one post per thread.

This is exactly why we have a T60 Forum and a Search page for it; also consider that this thread will move down on the stack unless it keeps getting replied to or it gets stickied.

Not a bad idea, but the posts need not be that long with a quote, a few in-context sentences and a link to another thread should be enough.
