14" FlexView on T60p?

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the 14" LCD in my 2007-83U is an IPS screen. I say that because the machine is sucking a lot of power (so much for 8 hours, I'm seeing estimates between 4 and 5) and I'm getting ghosting.

Yes, the image looks good and bright, but I'm already getting headaches from scrolling through web content. I'm very woried about what games will look like. :(

Interesting. The power manager has a setting for "fan sound level" that can be optimized for "performance" or "balance all settings." Did that exist on the T43?

Ahaha, you use battery drain and ghosting to evaluate whether the screen is IPS or not? That's funny.

How about doing the simplest test, and looking at it at the largest vertical angle you can from below (tilt the LCD all the way down).

If the screen darkens noticeably and/or the colors are inverted, it's not an IPS.

well, the 15" IPS screen is made by Hydis.

darrenf, would you mind sharing the LCD brightness level, CPU speed, wireless on/off state? I believe your T60p comes with a 9 cell.

dr_st: viewing angle is not improved much over my old display -- is it with all IPS displays?

Once I cloned my T42p hdd image over the display doesn't ghost like it did with the factory image. Odd. I am using Omega drivers now. They moved over with the ghost and didn't need to be updated or reinstalled. If my headache goes away I'll know that the ghosting is fixed.

sugo, I haven't done enough work yet to make a ruling on battery drain yet. I should be able to give more information soon. My preliminary research (with the stock drive image) showed that the CPUs (it will take a while to get use to the plural :) ) will not run slower than 1GHz (6x). I find that disturbing. I thought that power savings were supposed to be gained through running two CPUs slower than one -- for instance, 2 @ 300MHz instead of 1 @ 600MHz. I don't need 2 @ 1GHz and don't want to waste the power.

I also noticed that ATI's Catalyst Control Center comes installed by default. On the T4x, CCC would cause a CPU usage spike every 2 seconds that drained a lot of battery. I didn't see the same effect in the limited tests I ran on the T60, but I would like to check battery performance without CCC installed just the same.

More detail to follow...

If it doesn't have perfect viewing angles, it's not IPS, period. Contrary to what you may think, ghosting is not limited to IPS displays, and in fact, the best IPS displays out there do not exhibit more ghosting than the best non-IPS displays out there.

What would cause a cloned image to perform better? :)

Omega drivers is all I could come up with.

I don't want to hijack this thread but I am very curious about the t60 because i'm looking at getting one this summer or fall and since we're on lcds. In particular the 14" - how is the feel of the body, the strength, does it feel like it will flex if you picked it up with one hand with the lcd open? Is there a balance between the strength of the base and the heaviness of the top. ? :)

-Kyocera,

I'm putting my comments on the T60 in this thread:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=22109

and updating it as I go. I'll go comment on the case there now.
