Cant wait. They screwed up the shipping, as it should have been here yesterday. Any suggestions or things to check for when i get it? I am using a T23 for last 3 years. Love it, but time to retire it. I check the site for what parts are in my T60, and found the Hyadis screen and ALPS keyboard. Any thoughts? Coming with 1GB....waiting for the 2 GB chip to be available.

T60p (200793U) just arrived this morning and I've been working on it all day. The fan noise is negligible even with "Max Performance" set while on AC. WiFi is as good as other Centrino laptops I use, though not quite as good as the Netgear WAG511 PCMCIA card I tested the slot with. No high pitched noises at all. When the CD/DVD is seeking I can hear it, but HD and fans are almost inaudible to me.

ScotchDiver:
How do you like the 15" UXGA FlexView display on your T60p? Lenovo is sourcing those from BOE Hydis rather than ID Tech, and I'm just curious to know your impression.
I took some pictures comparing some different panels on various panels (see link below). I found that the colors on the LG panel were much better:

I spent a few hours copying files between my desktop and the T60p last night. This gave me a chance to comapre the FlexView with a Viewsonic VG191b (a very good, though a bit old LCD) over a period of time.
Of course, the laptop wasn't quite as bright, but color, viewing angle, and eye strain were all as good as the Viewsonic to my untrained eye. I'm not a graphics person (I mostly write code) so my sensitivities may be different than others, but for me the FlexView is a winner.

I'm using Firefox on my T60 2007-73U and it runs just fine. What is the specific situation? Program not opening, hangs, or?

It always displays 'Firefox can't find the server at ------.' error message.
It's not able to find the connection. I didn't get time to check this today. I will check the settings tonight.

I had the same problem as I setup my wifi using Access Connections. Nothing but problems. So, I uninstalled Access Connections.
Now I,m using the wireless setup method provided in XP, it was fast, easy and works really well. I have not had a problem since and it's been over a week of using it everyday. Nice strong, reliable wifi.
Hope this helps.

Great. I configured WiFi using Access Connections. I will reconfigure my WiFi.
Thanks for the reply.

I've tried the new version of Access Connections (version 4, now branded "ThinkVantage") on my R40 and it is complete rubbish compared to the previous version. Very unstable, hangs, uses a lot more memory and installs services to run.
If you can, go back and install "IBM" Access Connections v3.5.3. It was perfect IMO. You may need to reinstall your i3945 driver afterwards, not sure.

I agree with astro, as I used to use the older Access Connections. Interestingly, I just spoke to a friend of mine (non-geek) who had a problem and called IBM tech support in Atlanta and they suggested he uninstall Access Connections as they have been having a lot of complaints.
He, like myself always uses wifi so he went the XP way and everything was fine.
Installing the older version of Access Connections is an idea that would also work. However if you only use wifi you may find you are happier with XP wireless.

I recently restored my laptop to factory settings. My Access Connection version is 3.81; it doesn't even give me any new versions to install through software installer.

I think all of the Access Connections v3.x are fine. It's v4.x that you gotta stay away from.
I don't think Software Installer will give you a later option, until you download and extract the update from the Lenovo website. Unless they have made the later versions of Software Installer check the website itself.
Best to stick with v3.x methinks.

I am getting an occasional high-pitched, almost whistling noise.
It's not constant. Can't tell if it's the fan or the hard disk. Anyone
else have this problem? Machine is a 2007-68U.

Can anyone use the fan control software to test the fan speed? If I turn it to Max Performance, the fan noise is loud and not negligible.

With respect to
high-pitched noise in T60's, this is an issue that several users have already reported; see e.g.
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=39888
Also, go to
http://forum.thinkpads.com/search.php? and search for: "High-Pitched" (and select "Search for all terms", limit search to the T60-forum; you'll find about 15 hits).
If you check
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=113289 there's a guy who report how he (apparently?) has solved this problem; see
http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/showthread.php?t=3516
Hope it helps...!
Regards,
Johan

Well, it worked for me at least.
