Factory load software or reformat and reload?

#1 Post by wpwood3 » Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:57 pm

Just curious...

My new T60 is a very fast computer but it seems like all that speed is being sapped by all the bloatware in the factory install. I'm considering reformatting and simply adding back the things I need and nothing more.

What are others doing?

That sounds like a good idea. It is what I plan to do, at least before I remove windows entirely.
Happily picks up his three grand; unhappily hands it over to another company.

Reformat to get the extra 4GB from the recovery partition and clean out the junkware.

See this thread for directions:

I went with Option #3 - Reformat but keep hidden partition.

Some notes from my experience: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 671#141671

It seemed to me that prior to T60 they didn't put so much junkware. So I just removed the preinstalled apps I didn't need.

I tried that first, but none of the Norton apps would uninstall. They'd just hang at about the 50% point.

I like to do a fresh install everytime. I just backup my "my Docs" folder and my "Favorites".

Call house cleaning, if you will.

hey guys, this was the thread that I used to make my windows install cd from all the files located on the hard drive.

An important step is to make a WINNT.SIF file. Make sure you get the IBM OEM CD key from the unattend.txt file
