Unless something significant changed about the EC and how the ACPI access it, the Fan Control Utility should be able to work as it is independent of everything expect the EC, the WinIO driver, and everything else in between.

With Fancontrol on Smartmode on my T60 (2007-63U):
Setting - RPM
0 = OFF
1,2 = ~3000RPM
3,4,5 = ~3300RPM
6,7 = ~4000RPM
Fancontrol doesn't report speeds any higher than ~4000RPM when the BIOS is controlling the fan.
Settings 1 and 2 are very quiet. In many environments I probably couldn't really tell the difference between off and 1,2. 3,4,5 are a bit louder, but not bad enough to really bother me. 6,7 are noticably louder and a little annoying.
With normal use the the BIOS sets the fan to around the 3,4,5 settings. This puts the CPU around 44C and the GPU around 65C. I am using smartmode to keep the fan in mode 1,2 during normal use. This raises the temps only a few degrees C

Great, I downloaded Fancontrol, but the fan is even louder
Hello again,
as proposed I downloaded FanControl and spent some time to read the "readme" carefully. Then I switched into Smart-Mode and the fan started to run continously in the highest mode (7). Thus the fan was even louder than using my T60 without FanControl. What is the reason for this behavior? I think it`s maybe because the GPU has a temperature of about 60. But how to solve the problem?
Thank you

Re: Great, I downloaded Fancontrol, but the fan is even loud
Fancontrol bases the speed off the highest temp it detects. My GPU is always about 20C hotter than the core and everything else. I adjusted the fancontrol.ini settings to raise the speeds at higher temps.Marciavelli wrote:Hello again,

Also, please note that the default values in fancontrol.ini were obtained on a T43 in the beginning and tweaked for other models; as far as I know, these values are not optimal for the T60. You will have to come up with your own control parameters for the T60 if you want to use the Fan Control Utility; it isn't that hard....but I don't think that running it on a T60 off the vaules from the T4X Series would be efficient.
Other than that, it should work fine.
Also, you can ignore certain sensors as well; I do imagine they haven't changed how many sensors there are and what values they have identifying them on the new T60 mobos.

problem
I started using fan control on my T60, although I didn't really need it cause its not that loud, it seemed to work well when I turned off the NHC.
But today, i found it twice that the explorer (not internet explorer) halted showing 50% CPU level constantly in the task manager. I had to end the process and restart the explorer. And then while the fan control utility still seems to be working, the icon on the tray disappeared. I had to end the process of fancontrol from the task manager again and retart it.
I'm not sure this kind of malfunction was reported from T4x and other machines but something seems to be wrong with T60, unless my machine (2days old) is going astray.

That has been reported with the FCU and happens every now and then; so far as I can tell, it doesn't harm anything but generates an eventlog log...it doesn't do much else as it tries again and it will eventually implement the control settings.festher wrote:even wtihout NHC or any other utility that i know of i still somtimes get the conflict message.
