I pulled the trigger but not for T60 but for T42p. My justification was, having accessaries for T42, long wait time for T60 (I had EPP also
. And I got 1.8 G/15" FlexView UXGA/9Cell/60G 72K/1G for <$1500 New. For my use I think memory/faster HDD + better screen would make the difference not the processor and bus spead. (For general applicaiton developmet - Java + Database stuff)

Dude, that's just not right. Dual core is ESPECIALLY great for application development, especially java. You see, java has the ability (like most higher-level languages) to manage threads outside of the general thread pool. Thus, for asynchronous tasks (whatever you wish those to be - like web service info retrieval while processing prior info, or swing development of a client-side app with some background processing without UI locking), Dual core is the bomb. Moreover, if you are doing anything w/ Oracle or even SQL Server on your computer, those server apps def. utilize SMP (symmetric multi-processing) to the max when processing queries (especially parallel ones on Oracle).
I was about to buy the t43p when I found out about the T60p from the interweb. I decided to forego the convenience of quick shipment over the awesome development prowess of the T60p. If you don't believe me, check out these benchmarks. But, trust you me, if you are developing any asynchronous programming tasks, Core Duo is essential!

yep, I am doing a ton w/ WebSphere right now, and also equally a lot w/ .NET (everything is obviously database driven), so two cores is twice as sweet.

rpaturi,
I hope you know there isn't much of a wait for the dual cores. I got mine in about 1 week. For $1,500 I'm sure you can get a decent 1.8GHz dual core. Just order it and see which one comes first. In addition you can return the one that you don't want. All that is going to matter is a charge on your credit card for 30 days.

X300 gone... Last of the T61p 14.1"
if you are spending around 1500 for a t43p, just spring a bit more for the duo core, even though it has a lower res (for the less expensive option).
