Who made my keyboard?
Who made my keyboard?
On one of my T60p machines, I have Mfr part # 39T0988 and FRU part # 39T7118.
How do I tell who made this keyboard?
How do I tell who made this keyboard?
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
I have here on my desk four Thinkpad keyboards:
T60p with Alps
T60p with Chicony
T42p with NMB (thai)
T42p with Alps
I'm *really* splitting hairs here. All of these keyboards are excellent. My judgement on quality is that the Alps and NMB are tied for first place. The two Alps are a little more "clackaty" noisy but have a good tactile feel, at least as good as the NMB. Between the two Alps keyboards, the T42p version has just ever-so slightly more resistance.
The T60p Chicony is much quieter than the others, but feels mushy to me. If I were taking notes in a business meeting or classroom, I'd grab the Chicony. For everything else, I'd grab the Alps or NMB.
To be fair, the NMB for the T60p may be different than that for the T42, so this isn't a totally fair comparison.
The worst of these keyboards easily trumps the best notebook keyboard by any other manufacturer, Dell, Sony, etc.
Does anybody know if I can put the T42p keyboard in the T60p? Maybe I'll give it a try...

The above link for keyboard parts is for the Z60 series. Even though the models share keyboards (part numbers are the same), here's a link for the T60 keyboards:

I just ordered another keyboard using the warranty.
On my keyboard the F6 key gets stuck if you press to hard. Then you have to wiggle the key for it to pop out.
