T60p in graphic intense apps.

#1 Post by victor » Thu Mar 23, 2006 8:04 pm

Hi,
A few days ago I received my T60p. (never had thinkpads before)
My question is for all of you who are using Thinkpads in graphic intense applications. Is it normal to have a slight pulse sound when the complex 3d model is rotated. Just when I stop rotation, the sound disappears.

Thanks

That's a really interesting issue. It would seem to indicate to me that (perhaps) something is not shielded completely enough between the graphics system and the sound system.

I've got ACad04 and will give it a shot this weekend (assuming I get my T60p tomorrow as scheduled).

I have not noticed it in Maya 7 when I spin models. What app are you using?

I do not know what causes this sound, but it is not a Thinkpad specific issue.

Many computers generate such sounds when you manipulate large amounts of polygons in 3D apps. My own does and it is not a notebook. There used to be an extensive thread about this problem on cgtalk.com. There's no real solution to this problem. Turning off speakers may help though.

I have found changing out the graphics drivers usually does the trick with the buzz sound in heavy graphic movements.
