Anyone else's T60 power off when connecting it to a mini dock? It doesn't seem to be happening to me everytime, but twice today it did it. It's a tad bit frustrating.

I have the Advanced Mini Dock and a 2623-D6U.

You hooked up the power adaptor to the dock, right?

Any errors or anything displayed? Do you get a blue screen, does it just go black or does it go through the Windows shutdown sequence?

Correct, the power adapter is plugged into the dock.

I don't get any errors or anything. It just instantly shuts off when I connect it to the dock.

I had the exact same problem with my 195144U. Lenovo had no idea what could cause it. They had me reset the motherboard and a number of other things, but finally swapped it for a new one (it was within the return period). The new one does not do this.

By the way, this happened with both the 6 and 9 cell batteries attached.

I have the same problem with my 200768U. Any other ideas other having them service it?

Same here, I tried it again 3 more times yesterday and it worked each time. Strange, I guess I will just keep an eye on it.

I have had this happen a few times here on my 2623DDU. Doesn't happen every time I redock, but, when it does happen, it seems to happen only when the machine has been undocked for extended periods of time (e.g. when I have been away in a conference room for a 1 hour meeting).

Has anyone else experience this?

With my 2623DDU the power off occurs if I attach the system to a port replicator while the system is in standby. It also happens if I put the system in standby while on the port replicator and remove it.

This is happening to me too and it's driving me bonkers!

It turns off only sometimes when being warmed docked. I've found it does more often if I do a cold boot while the computer is undocked and try to redock it. It also seems to happen occasionally when the computer remains undocked for a few hours.

I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting and called IBM a few times; they weren't even able to understand the problem but did send me a new Advanced Mini Dock.

The problem occurs on both Advanced Mini Docks I have, so I'm guessing it's either software or the hardware of my T60.

Has anyone else made any discoveries or had an insight from IBM?

I will join the "me too" post here. I kept thinking it was me hitting the power button that is right next to the eject button.

It appears that the docking stations are charging up, and the potential difference between the docking station and the laptop is shutting the computer down.

The suggestion is to touch some metal parts of the connector on the docking station and the laptop to discharge the voltage build up before hot docking the laptop. At my company, we have validated this across three different users who were seeing this problem consistently.

My personal experience is that just touching the docking station connector with my finger has eliminated this problem, at least 20 consecutive times over the last 2 weeks. My theory is that the docking station is charging up from the connection to the monitor or some other peripheral, and there is no path to ground due to the station only having a 2 pin power plug.

Hard to believe the boys at Lenovo/IBM couldn't have solved this problem a long time ago.

Is there a way to modify the docking station to have it be grounded properly? Like put some electrical tape on it somewhere?

Wow, My T43 just started doing this as well this morning. I have noticed a little shock whenever I touch the fingerprint reader after docking. I hope mine is the static issue as well.

For those of you with this problem, did you have to remove your battery and re-insert it before your Txx would turn back on? I did.

I think we should report this to lenovo may be they will replace only the ac adpter with ground terminal or something similar.
