Is the T-60 worth the wait?
Being new to thinkpads, and banging away on the old Toshiba here (running Win 98) I decided to make the plunge for a new machine, XP wifi, ya know… I ordered and received ahead of schedule a 15’’ T-43 and returned it mainly because of size, heat (that fan is noisy). Now I’m hearing about fan noise on the T-60 and goofy delivery times so I wondering if I’m doing the right thing here. Then I read today that Lenovo is saying, “well the ship estimates on the web aren’t really accurate”
These guys remind me of another interest of mine motorcycles. BMW in particular. They make a very good product at a premium price I might add. And they do strange things sometimes and I think its just because they are “BMW” and they can get away with it… Did things run like this when IBM was doing things?

To some extent, these things happen to every company; this is just a transitory period for IBM/Lenovo and they have, apparently, had under-estimated the amount of orders for the Z60, T60, and X60 Series that they would be getting. The ship times vary, and from my experience ordering parts, lean on the side of caution whereas you get your shipment before the stated date.
Although I am pretty sure that Customs doesn't help and that the routing of some packages to Alaska does take time.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

I have no issues with fan noise. It's no louder or softer than my other laptops. They are all quieter than my last HP. It took 4 weeks for me to get it. That really is not bad when they originally esimated 2-4 weeks when I ordered it. I cannot complain and so far I am very happy. This is my first Thinkpad also.mj sperber wrote:I ordered and received ahead of schedule a 15’’ T-43 and returned it mainly because of size, heat (that fan is noisy). hi mj sperber,
asking, what bmw and ibm/lenovo have in common, i´d say: they can afford it! the bavarians are the best makers of motorcycles in europe or even the western hemisphere and ibm/lenovo machines are very good also. while other manufacturers never´d take the risk to go on the market while not having enough machines in stock, ibm can. they know that they are good enough to not get lost of their fans.

you don't think Ducati's are great bikes? Granted the 996 wasn't the MOST reliable bike around (but Ferrari's and Lamborghini's aren't either, but they do very well no the track. a buddy of mine races his Ducati 999 and no one can touch him (but it is up to the driver too). i just had to wait a few weeks for my T60 so i'm satisfied, i'm neither enthused or excited till i develop something very large.emzett wrote:hi mj sperber,

you´re right, ducati ist cool, too. but bmw -- don´t have more then one of ´em for my own
-- u kow, everything is right, everything is correct. thats just my subjective feeling, but i tell u: my motorcycle (R 1150) is just PERFECT, crop of the cream. there is absolutely nothing that should be improved in my opinion ... OK, one thing: the price!!!! the germans have this "made in germany" brand and do ya know what: on some special bmw products there is a made in bavaria! oops...getting enthusiastic...OK, am a bmw-addict. if my T60 is half as good as my R 1150 i swear to jump out of my 4th floor window....
my apologies to the hijackers, but I'd like to speak to the topic of the thread.
the month from order to in my hands was not bad at all and the product was MOST DEFINITELY worth the wait. it has exceeded my expectations in almost every way and I'm thrilled to now have my new T60p.
