I see that most people who got machines purchased high end T60p models with FlexView displays.

I'm wondering if anyone bought a 14" form factor machine and what their experiences are with it.

I love it. Absolutely no complaints.

I'm a first-time Thinkpad owner (T60, 14", 2007-68U), so can't really compare it to other Thinkpad models. Also a first-time laptop owner, so can't offer in-depth comparison to other makes. But I did shop around a bit and looked at Fujitsu, Dell, etc.

The biggest noticeable difference is the keyboard. I like typing on the TP keyboard almost as much as a desktop keyboard. It's definitely the best laptop keyboard I have tried. The build quality is also obviously different from other makes, even Fujitsu, which was one of the better non-TP laptops I saw. As for the disk shock protection, roll cage, etc., I cannot really see or feel those design features, so I'll just take Lenovo's claim that they improve the durability of the laptop at face value (and given the history of the TP line, I don't feel like a sucker in doing so).

Overall, other than a very bright green pixel in the center of the screen (I don't mind the 2 bad pixels near the edge, but this one is distracting/annoying), I'm very pleased with the laptop.

overall, it's not bad for a T-series thinkpad.

Initially, I didn't like the re-design by Lenovo. I still don't like it, but can live with it. Now, I'm trying to figure out why I shouldn't keep it. The T42 is still great.

I'm very pleased with my 14" T60. It's the best screen I have ever had on a laptop. I would not consider the 15" screen because of the overall size of the 15" laptop. Also, the battery life is a factor.

if you can return it for a replacement i would suggest that you do so..

that one green pixel has the potential to bug the crap out of you..
and for that much $$ let lenovo send it to the refurb sales center and you get one that is perfect like most of them are..

Thanks for the feedback guys. I may order one (probably a lower end model) next week in the hopes of getting it before the end of the month.

I'm thinking about the 1951-44U, which I can get a favorable deal on. Quickly, the specs are: 1.83 GHz Core Duo, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, GMA950, XGA 14" display, Intel 3945ABG Wireless, Fingerprint reader, CDRW/DVD, 6-cell battery, and 3-year warranty.

This will give me roughly the same capabilities as my current T40, though obviously with much more computing power and (hopefully) sturdier build. I just hope I have less trouble with the T60 than I did with the T40. This machine has been to the repair shop more times than I care to remember.

K.Eng, what prompts you chose the xga vs the sxga 14" ? I'm trying to decide between the two, sight unseen. Thanks.

Yeah, that pixel was just mocking me. Setting up the new laptop as I type!
