T60 Memory Upgrade
T60 Memory Upgrade
I just did a memory upgrade for my 2623D4U. I added a 1GB module from Crucial. The memory upgrade process is a poor. You have to remove the palm rest and then be careful not to break the plastic tabs when you put the palm rest back.
One question I have is which module slot is bank 0 and what is bank 1? I assumed that the module that came with my machine was in bank 0 and that's where I placed the 1GB module and then moved the 512MB module to the top slot. I know that the larger module is suppose to be in bank 0 as its accessed first???
Don't get me wrong I love this machine. No bad pixles, good SXGA 14" screen and for a 1.66 its much faster then my Dell D610. Not as fast as my powerbook but I believe that's a Windows vs OSX issue. Just the memory upgrade process could have been simpler. One last note. Why is my home page getting reset to MSN. Even after I set it to another URL it goes back after I restart the computer. This happens to IE or Firefox.

There is a setting in AC that also dictates what your homepage is set to; if you change it there, or tell it to not over-ride your browser settings when you set up the profile, it will stop.

Several people have commented that the palmrest removal process is difficult. I think it comes from trying to remove and reinstall the palmrest in the same way as the T4x palmrest.
I've found that the T60 15" palmrest is a little difficult to get hooked on the front edge right, but the two 14" T60s that I've worked on went on quite smoothly.
The new procedure starts with hooking the front edge first. On the T4x, five screws covered with cosmetic tape held the front edge. Now, that edge just hooks over the base, saving a lot of time. The opposite edge, closest to the keyboard is connected by bowing the middle (above the TrackPoint buttons) up while pressing the outer edges down. Both sides hook the base from the inside, so if you don't bow the middle you probably will have to force something. Once both hooks are down, let go of the middle and anchor with the four screws from underneath.
The beauty of this is that there are fewer screws required to get the palmrest off and the outside edges of the palmrest to the right and left of the keyboard are always firmly anchored and don't flex and creak like the 14" T4x palmrest did (the 15" didn't have a separate palmrest).
I think I saw a video posted here at one point that showed this procedure. Once you know to "hook and bow" it is quite easy. Of course, I realize that this is more work than the bottom-mounted door on the T4x, but it gives access to both sticks and allows the rollcage to surround the base.

Re: T60 Memory Upgrade
Download and run CPU-Z. Just unzip it to any folder and run cpuz.exe. Click on the SPD tab and it will tell you what memory module you have in each slot.sppxl0 wrote:One question I have is which module slot is bank 0 and what is bank 1? Bank 0 = Slot #1
Bank 1 = Slot #2

You can see the key diagrams related to palmrest removal without downloading the manual here:

I don't see a video of it on Lenovo's site yet, but the procedure is the same as for the Z-series laptops. Here's a video of memory removal:
