Luvin my new T60 but i have encountered one kwirk, and was wondering if anyone else had seend this.
When suspending my T60 and then opening lid later to do some work occasionally my GB Adapter goes missing, even from Device Manager. I have to restart the laptop to get the adapter available. I use the GB connection once a day when transfering VM Images to my desktop and getting kinda bothersome.
Any suggestions welcome.

This is by design. The latest BIOS rev disables the ethernet port when not in use to save power. Cool, eh?

It's a worry, because I switch between wireless (home) and wired (work) -- with suspends in between -- every day... Surely there are other people who do this as well?

Everyone with a T60 has this "problem." What annoys you about it?

BTW: It doesn't have anything to do with a suspend. The ethernet port turns off when not in use and back on when you plug in an ethernet cord. The reason that schnazzy1 gets a bubble following resume is that the ethernet card is momentarily activated on resume before shutting off (if not in use). Windows catches this and sometimes gives a bubble saying that the LAN is disconnected.

If it's the bubble that's annoying you, just uncheck the "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" box in the properties for the adapter.

Sorry -- I don't have a T60 (but am close to buying one), so I didn't realise the full story. I thought what he was saying was that it disappears and he needs to restart before he can use the ethernet again. Didn't say anything about plugging it back in and it starting to work...

Anyway, phew!

schnazzy1, have you tried plugging in an energized ethernet cable to reactivate the ethernet port?

I had the same problem and it's an issue for me because I have FlexLM bound to that MAC address to manage various licenses on the machine. I disabled the power savings for the NIC card and so far I've been okay.

It's great that it auto restarts, but the downtime breaks the LM comm and you have to manually restart the various license daemons.

These boxes are marketed as portable workstations for CAD/CAM and graphics apps among other things. This issue was not a surprise though as I've seen this same problem on our T43. A31, A30, A21, etc... if the power savings for the NIC card is left enabled.

Update:
This didn't completely solve the problem as the system would still disable the card when WiFi took over. See post below.

Thanks on the replies i am on the road at the moment using my company issued T43(2669q1u) and will try plugging in a live ethernet cable and see if it works.

Go into device manager>network adapters>Double Click the Pro/1000 PL Network Adapter>click Advanced tab>select Deep Smart Power Down>change the value to Disable.

Restart and you should be good to go. Support will be updated for this function in an upcoming driver revision.
