I recieved my T60 today, and found that it has a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. I was considering sending it back anyway to get the better screen. Would you be prompted to send something back because of a dead pixel, right in the center of the screen?

Yes, especially since it's in the center of the display. If it were in a corner and didn't bother you possibly not but in the center of the display, well it would bother me.

Think they would swap it out for one with a better screen, the turnaround probably wouldnt be bad.

which display do you have? 14" or 15"?

According to Lenovo's "Display (LCD) replacement for defective pixels" policy, I'm guessing they wouldn't swap it out for a better one. And in fact, they'd send it back to you unchanged, as one pixel falls under the number needed to be considered a defective display.

It may be best, should you decide you don't want to put up with a dead pixel in the center of the screen (I know I wouldn't want to), to just return the whole machine for a refund -- and then order another new one.

Return it. Dead pixels are IMO unacceptable on a premium machine like the T60.

I had a bright green stuck pixel in the center of my screen. Also had a couple of dimmer stuck pixels near the edge of the screen. I was quite comfortable living with the latter, since I never really noticed them unless I was looking for them. The former was another story, and after a week of hoping that I would stop noticing it, I returned it and put in an order for the same model.

So I guess my advice to you depends on whether the dead pixel is something you notice regularly even when you're not looking for it. If so, return it and get another one. This sucks especially if you had already set up the laptop to your liking, as I did, but you'll be happier in the long run. You can image the drive if need be.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Sorry to vent... Just as I was shutting down for the night after a fun-filled first week of ownership of my T60, I saw it... bright and green (visible against black)... the first (and hopefully only!) dead pixel, about 4-5 inches up from the bottom right corner and an inch from the right.

I am EXTREMELY frustrated because my first Lenovo purchase was the z60m. Beautiful machine, until I found more than 5 dead pixels. Because the resolution was a 1680 x 1200 or whatever, I needed at least 13 dead pixels for a return. Naturally, I returned that laptop within 30 days, but waited over 1.5 months for my second z60m that never came. So when I made this purchase, I didn't think karma would do this to me again.

On a more positive note, my T60's dead pixel isn't too obvious, it's only 1 pixel, and it's off the center of the screen. Still, I was excited about the T60 because hardly anyway complained about dead pixels in this forum. I guess no LCD is perfect, but it sounds like most of you DO have perfect LCDs!

My 32" LCD TV has some, but you sit several feet away from it, and you learn to live with it (and it's a cheap Syntax Olevia). With a laptop, you're sometimes inches from the screen -- and not just any screen, but a premium product on a flagship model from a leader in laptops. *sigh*

lets get the nomenclature right, here..

DEAD PIXEL = just that, no light at all.. a hole in an all white display..

STUCK ON PIXEL = well, the same.. a pixel that is lit all the time..

from reading the above posts, i detect that they are stuck on pixels..

send it back now because if you do not you will not get the display swapped out under warranty..

Then there are those pixels that are just Different; i.e. they get hung on one color and will very slowly, so slow as to make it seem as if they are static, change color. The thing about those pixels is that they are fixable.

I tried out the PSP video pixel fixer, basically just RGB then B and W in a tight loop to stress the hardware in the LCD, and was able to generate and eliminate several hung pixels in that fashion.

Dead pixels on TFT LCDs are more common than most people think; but if you put your good money down for a Thinkpad, then you might want to think about sending it back.

Call Lenovo. Say you have a dead pixel and offer them two options: return (there is a 30-day-no-question-asked return policy) or an exchange. They will happily offer you an exchange and your return shipping will also be covered. It is just to their best interest as well.

Just exchange it, but remember - that still does not assure you'd be getting a pixel-perfect lcd.

That's what I thought. I looked it up, and I actually have an LG-Phillips! I'm learning to deal with it. It's not dead in the center, and I love my T60 so much, I'll just put up with it (and buy a T61 next year... haha)

I had a similar problem with one very red stuck pixel about an inch up and left of the center of my 14" LCD (T60p, 2326-D8U) _out of the box_.

I called the Lenovo Sales people who got on the line with me with Tech Support. They said "we'll fix it. It shouldn't be that way out of the box". I sent it to them. They sat on it for 3 days, gave me awful customer service, then sent it back to me with a letter stating their deal pixel policy. Out of my hands for 7 days total.

13 calls and 6 weeks since purchase I massaged the heck out of the back of the LCD, played flashy fix-it videos, and it went away (for now).

SEND IT BACK, 'cause they aren't going to fix it and they eat up your 30 days option.

Guys, if your ThinkPad LCD screen only has stuck pixels (red, green, or blue pixel, always light on), try this utility called UDPixel. You can download it from here (http://udpix.free.fr/index.php?p=dl).

I have a RED stuck pixel on my old T41, and it bother me over past two years. I ran this utility last night for almost 4 hours, and the magic thing happen on me. I did change the speed, size, and different color pattern for this stuck pixel, and half of the time set for red and black.

I will try this utility again on my new T60p (one red stuck pixel on 15" 1600x1200, it is not my luck and don't think can exchange for a better one). I hope everyone should try this utility first before RMA or return.

Remember, this utility only work for stuck pixels, NOT for death pixels. Also, you should run it over night (turn off screen saver, dimmer, and you can lower lcd back light) before give up.
