Hello Folks,

Do anyone elses DVD's skip and stutter during playback? I've set all the power scheme defaults to max, in BIOS and Windows, turned every back ground program off which I don't need running, performed the hotkey fix in apps & services, yet the bloody thing still skips!! I am so fustrated I'm writing this on my Dell m600, which besides being crappy in comparison, has never missed a beat. Any ideas, before I return it and buy a Dell? Oh. and I forgot to mention both palm rests creak like my old wooden canoe.

You have a 30 day satisfaction period. Send that unit back, claiming it being a lemon, and get a new one.

What program are you using to view dvds. Skipping usually is from something else chewing up processor or memory power. Check to see if you save something nasty running in the background.

I'm using the interactual player. Task manager doesn't show any other processes running in the back ground and the CPU usage shows hardly any effort or RAM requirements.

Use Intervideo or Power DVD instead. I bet my co-worker's life that it will work.

I forgot to mention: 3 gigs of ram, Duo T2600 processor.

I'm really surprised that your palm rests creak. I've used two different T60s and they've been ROCK solid - seriously, I can't get them to creak - much better than our older T43p.

Alright, I'll try the other players. The palm rests appear to have been taken off before. They probably did during manufacture, but you can see marks on the screws - like they've been undone before with slightly the wrong size screw driver. I wonder if IBM resells returned items as new? MMMMMM....

i too have the squeaky palmrests; if you find a fix, let me know in my "squeaky palmrest" thread. do you have the 15"? it seems to only be a problem on the 15".

Probably for the RAM upgrade. The palmrest may have been incorrectly reassembled. Take it off and put it back and see if it still creaks.

RE: DVD playback stutter

I noticed the same thing using the factory install that came on my T60P. I always re-install from scratch and I use the NVIDIA PUREVIDEO decoder now with no playback problems. I'm even running Windows Media Center without a problem.

While I'm not running it on my T60P, I have usually run WinDVD from Intervideo and have never had a problem with playback on a Thinkpad.

T60P model 2007-94U

My T60 has wide open gap with blue wire sticking out on left side edge of the keyboard bezel.... I fixed it anyway but keyboard bezel was worn out which leaves a filmsy feel. But I like the screen and other stuff on the laptop, I decided to keep it. I might just order another keyboard bezel from acsparts.com to replace it myself instead of spending the shipping fee to return it.

Yeah, it's the 15" model. I think the screen makes up half the weight of the thinkpad. Well, I tried the other players and no luck. After I installed all of the new drivers and updates, I actually made it worse. Now the sound of the multi-burner spinning comes through the speakers. So I returned it back to IBM, for another one. If the new one goes the same route, I can't justify the $3700 investment, especially for my small business, so I will switch brands. I may just consider a MBP and dual boot the darned thing. I am trying very hard not to give up on IBM but, I've never had a notebook - certainly for this expense - to have this may issues right out of the box. Pay attention Lenovo, if you are reading.

That's a very good observation. It was one of the first things that I noticed about mine...and it's the exact opposite of any other lappy I've ever used. Usually, the LCD assembly/housing/hinges/screen/etc kinda sux but you can expect a decent base.

On the T60p, the LCD is solid as a rock and the [censored] base has several places where it's $1k lappy kinda flimsy...still though rigid over all. Just dissapointing in a few specific areas.

I hope you get your issues resolved, Grifter. I'd return it for that, too. But, even with its flaws, the T60(p) is closer to perfection (at least for me) than anything else out there.

I disabled the ATI hotkey poller, and no diffrence on the battery. Although, with this disabled the DVD runs fine using AC power.
