Boot Up Changed Since Reinstall - Reasons?

#1 Post by Stefan Bruckel » Thu Apr 06, 2006 6:27 pm

I had to reinstall the system for my T60p 2623DDU machine today for reasons discussed in other threads on this forum.

Upon reinstall, machine boots differently, hibernation works, etc.

Oddly, since the reinstall, the system now boots differently... I get a DOS looking screen first, where it does the memory check (2 gig in my case), and then boots to windows.

Given all the systems issues I had when I first got the machine, I wonder if they get their harddisks preloaded with Windows, rather than install Windows on each machine so it can "customize itself" as it installs? Maybe that caused all the problems I was having?

Anyway, since system reinstall, all seems to work well. If this is a Lenovo practice, then maybe it would be safer to do a complete reinstall when someone first gets the system, rather than find out a weeks' worth of work later that the inital install was so corrupt that it requires a reinstall... does that make any sense?
