What kind of experience shall I name this?

Hi,
Today I got my t60 notebook. It's 2623-D3U model. I opened the package immidiately to go and see if I would aslo encounter the problems posted on the forum.

I didn't:

- No problem with wireless at all.

- No problem with the palmrest being sqeeky.

- No problem with standby.

The T60 seems to be built very well.

However, the system had only 1 problem:

IT WOULD NOT BOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT !!!!!!!!! :evil:
I got over and over blue screen of death ! Even In safe mode I could''t boot up the system.

I went to setup, disabled all optional stuff (Wake on LAN, Dual core) while leaving SATA to its current state (non-compatibility mode, done remember the abrreviation). The system booted, and I completed the Startup procedure (wizard, disk conversion, etc).

When I got to windows I started checking up the system, I got a BSOD again in2-3 minutes. Rebooted and same problems again. Each time I got the BSOD it was another error (not getting same error each time), so my first guess for being the source of problem was RAM.

I went to setup, disbled quickboot, eanbled extended memory checking (and 1 other change I don't remembet now) and rebooted. I haven't recived BSOD till now (1 hour) but I am really wondering what the source of problem is. I don't like the problem to be solved without knowing how and why?

Any thoughts?

PS: LENOVO, please turn on your product at least 1 time before packing. I am thinking what word I could use to dsecribe LENOVO QC correctly as it deserves!

I have not had a ThinkPad blue screen on first turn on. I would send it back immediately. Tell Lenovo precisely what happened, that you are sending it back, and want a new one its place. Do not wait. ... JD Hurst

Call IBM/Lenovo and get logged in as having a problem. The tech will suggest a bunch of stuff, do it, then you'll probably wind up getting another machine.

Thanks for the advices.
But sending back is not that easy. I am in Dubai, UAE now. I have updated the BIOS as well awaiting the system to crash ! I may install some games to push the system a little bit.

It could just be some random corruption on the HD.

Stefan Bruckel was having heaps of problems with suspend (IIRC) until he did a full reinstall and now it is supposedly perfect.

Hamid, you seem very knowledgeable from your previous posts -- why not try a full reinstall yourself? At least then you can eliminate it as a software issue.

I had the same thing, instant bsod. I did a full factory restore and all is well after that.

Good suggestion! More than likely that will fix it.

I would also run Memtest+ for several hours. If there is a RAM problem, Memtest will find it.

Yep, half a week after full reinstall still up and running without any issues. Appears my experience is not isolated. Of course, no way of knowing how wide spread, since it's likely those of us with problems who find ourselves here, with all those happy system owners not having a need to look up help! Anyway, I am glad I found this forum.... very educational due to the many volunteers who contribute. Thank you.

As for myself, if I were to order another Lenovo system, I'd do an immediate reinstall upon arrival, given Lenovo's QC appears to be having some issues these days, even if isolated. Since the reinstall happens largely without involvement and takes only about an hour or so, that may be time very well spent... even if unnecessary for the vast majority of systems.

Yes, Fan works pretty well and very silent.

What I did to recover from the BSOD, was to diable dual core and all wake on X options. The reason is that from the BSOD problems, I got erros from the SATA, power management, and one other driver (don't remember at the moment) so I decided to reduce the hardware config. to simplify the case. (I was also considering to disable Dual core but didn't) and the system booted up.

The source could be either HDD geometry problems or cloning issues. I guess IBM/Lenovo has shares their install image among variuos hardware configs.

Can't reinstall coz I don't have the Install CDs I need with me.

I can live with the fact that the IBM/Lenovo has shipped faulty software. But after betting the system to boot, I got BSOD 3-5 times. I got connected to the Internet in my hotel and updated the BIOS and Intel driver. No BSOD after that. I installed Warcraft III , set the detail level to maximum and watched replays at 8X (gets maximum processing) still no probelm. I also let the notebook run for 24 hours. No problems.

There is a bootable CD image "memtest86". Its used for checking the RAM. I will download it, test and post the results. I don't think the test would fail.

Thanks for the posts. I will let you know about any feuther findings. Hints and suggestions are welcome ..... :D

Did not use any CDs for my complete system reinstall... did it from the original hard disk partition. One would think it is preinstalled on your system as well?
