Fresh install on T60

#1 Post by brianmiller » Mon Apr 10, 2006 5:31 pm

Just giving a run down on what I did when I got my new T60 2007-72U

Open Box
Ghost factory image
Download SATA drivers from IBM.com and copied to floppy
Installed WinXP with new SATA drivers (NOT COMPATABILITY MODE)
Installed All required software
Created another Ghost Image.

I can't stand all of the pre-loaded garbage.

Setup the partioning up as follows

/dev/sda1 = WinXP Pro (for Work domain) NTFS
/dev/sda2 = WinXP Pro (for Home domain) NTFS
/dev/sda3 = FC5 EXT3
/dev/sda4 = /boot EXT3
/dev/sda5 = /usr EXT3
/dev/sda6 = /home EXT3

All booting from GRUB 2.0 and chainloading into NTLDR.

So far the machine seems to be great. I will keep this thread updated as I find problems.

about the bundled software, I couldn't agree more. i opened up my 2007-64U today and it was bundled with 30gb of crapware. What kind of farking dvd burning software doesn't know what ISO is? why can't I play mp3? Imagine my shock when the built in defragger (non-microsoft) actually fragged my hard drive, making things worse, and popping up ads asking me to purchase the professional version!

I am not a windows user ( but develop win apps in vmware) and I was suprised by the amount of spyware-type software bundled with the system. I would image the problem to be worse for dell/compaq/retail user systems.

I can't wait to get FC5 installed, even without ati video drivers.
