128/256 vidmemory and a videocam bluescreen of death...

#1 Post by NJRonbo » Tue Apr 11, 2006 4:33 am

I have the T60. Have 2GB of system memory and 128 video memory.

Having a huge problem running my Logitech Quickcam
Notebook camera on my laptop.

Right from the start, when I installed the drivers and started
the webcamera the computer would go to blue screen, saying
it was dumping memory. This continued with every reboot until
I removed the Logitech drivers.

I found away around the situation by not loading drivers at
startup and only at the point that I needed to videoconference
with my business partner. However, once I closed the program
and shut down my T60 -- it would go to blue screen and dump
memory.

Here's my big question...

If I had gotten a T60 with 256 videocard memory instead of 128
would it have done the same thing? I'll return my T60 and buy a
T60P with 256 video if it means a more stable environment for
my laptop.

Thanks for the advice!

I can hardly imagine this has something to do with wether you have 128 or 256.
Sounds more like your driver is buggy. Did you try to get the latest one from the Logitech website?

Yes, I did.

Not only that, but this is what Logitech Support recommended...

Seems like a lot of hassle to go through to get a webcam
to work.

The main thing I needed to know is whether the videocard
memory was the issue and if I needed to go with a T60P and
256 memory to fix this problem.

I am still within my 30 days to return my Lenovo for another.

What if the driver is not compatible with Core Duo?

I was reading another forum which suggested that some software might not be compatible with multi-processor systems (though Core Duo is a not "true" SMP).

Have Logitech released a new driver since January or so?

Just a suggestion -- not even sure if this is an issue. I might raise another thread about this.

That's an interesting question.

This is the latest driver, but perhaps Logitech has not
tested it with a duo-core system.

However, to possibly put a hole in that theory....

My duo-core desktop supports a webcam (a Logitech but larger model)
quite well.

Sounds like the webcam driver is cr*p. I'd return the webcam, not the TP.

You should be able to run a webcam with 16MB of VRAM (I've done it). The amount of VRAM is not the issue, it's the fact that Logitech shipped product with a beta test driver, planning to fix it whenever they get around to it.
