Error: "Files needed to create Recover CDs not found&qu

Given the short sighted idea by Lenovo to save $1, or maybe $2, by not including a set of bootable recovery DVDs I attempted to create my own rescue & recovery media.

I have attempted two ways to do so, using a USB HD and a DVD.

Neither method works. Each leads to the above error.

Has anyone had the same issue... and, more importantly, found a work around?

I did do a full system reinstall (not voluntarily!!!) when I got the computer from the secure hard disk partition, but I'd like a DVD as well in case of hard drive failure.

Thank you for your comments!

I am not sure what you mean by: "I got the computer from the secure hard disk partition...". Also, how did you do the full system reinstall (in other words, what method did you use)?

I suspect you damaged the necessary files when you did the full system reinstall. Can you get to the Rescue and Recovery workspace by pressing the rectangular button on the upper left, at the beginning of the boot sequence (I believe the button is called "ThinkVantage" on the T60)?

You can try and see if Lenovo will send you a set of Product Recovery Discs for free. If not, you will have to pay Lenovo close to $50 for a set.

FWIW, when you create the Product Recovery Disc set, the first disk has to be a CD, and the second disk can be a DVD (or several CD's).

GomJabbar - Thank you. I had to reinstall my system following receipt as the Lenovo provided install was corrupt. That's what I referred to. Now I am just trying to make a bootable CD/DVD... which I can't, as files appear to be missing. Thanks for your comment... you are probably right, I will have to get a recovery CD or DVD from Lenovo, and I think it should be free! Stefan

Called Lenovo... evidently an isolated but not unheard of problem. They are sending recovery CDs. Hopefully I'll never need to use them!
