Has anyone installed fc5
Has anyone installed fc5
I installed fc5 on my t60. I use the window bootloader to point to Linux. Linux starts to load then freezes.
If anyone has installed fc5 were there any errors or issues?

I have, and didn't run into this. What specific computer are you referring to?87325is wrote:I installed fc5 on my t60. I use the window bootloader to point to Linux. Linux starts to load then freezes.

Why are you using windows' boot-loader and not grub? What is the error/message you last see when it halts?

Because i mostly use window and in the end i never thought it mattered. It loads the time then halts. I think it is the way i installed it but i let fc5 convert the 10gig of unused space to the default setup.
did you set up your own partitions? after everything installed....and nothing worked....i loaded partition magic in windows and it failed. so i think i/it messed up on the partitioning. i only uses linux to program my gumstsix so i am not the best but fc4 installed fine on my desktop.

I always set up my own partitions, and didn't use Partition Magic.87325is wrote:Because i mostly use window and in the end i never thought it mattered. It loads the time then halts. I think it is the way i installed it but i let fc5 convert the 10gig of unused space to the default setup.

- How are you making Window's boot manager start FC5? There is something you need to specify which you aren't which udev needs.
- You could use the FC5 disc in "Rescue Mode" and just install GRUB. This will load both Windows and FC5 properly.
I am having difficulty understading some of the things you're saying.

may be i will just have to use grub.... i have /boot /swap / then i install fc5. i have the bootloader in /boot. use bootpart to get the info needed then edit the win boot ini to load the bootpart file. This will load linux under the window bootloader. I have this working on another machine but may be i am missing somthing.
anything special to use grub?

There is nothing special in using grub.87325is wrote:may be i will just have to use grub.... i have /boot /swap / then i install fc5. i have the bootloader in /boot. use bootpart to get the info needed then edit the win boot ini to load the bootpart file. Does it stop at the same point? You could try turning on "Compatibilty mode" in the BIOS to see if it's the SATA hard drive that is causing the confusion.87325is wrote:still a bunch of nothing.
Either way, I "just ran" FC5's set up and didn't run into these problems.

Thanks for the help. but it was the bios. I upgraded the bios and reset the default settings and everything works with fedora. I have not pin pointed the reason. Is sseems to happen when i disable the modem/internal wired lan. I dont know why this would make udev fail but everything works now.
Thanks again
