Adding a Sierra Wireless EVDO (Verizon) network adapter

#1 Post by CupOfJoe » Sat Apr 15, 2006 4:52 pm

Hi all,

Can an internal Sierra Wireless (Verizon) network adapter (& antenna, etc.) be added to an existing T60p (which was purchased without one to begin with?)

In other words, can I buy the network adapter now and install it myself?

(And I'm referring to the internal one that ships with some laptops, not the "external" PCI card type...)

Thanks,

CupofJoe,

I don't have that answer for certain, but some suggest that
you will get better EVDO performance with an external card.

I have an external Kyocera card from an older laptop. I have
the Sierra card installed inside my laptop. I have opted not to
active it and continue using the external Kyocera.

Seems less of a hassle that way.

Both Kyrocera PC Card and Sierra Wireless mini-PCI use the latest Broadcom chipset. Do these two units really perform differently. Has anyone done a test?

NJRonbo,

That is interesting -- better performance from an external card.

Maybe I should go that route -- although the idea of having it built in to the laptop seemed better from a convenience standpoint.

Thanks for the feedback. :)
