I reloaded the t60p using hidden partition. I had 2 batteries installed at the time, so no cd burning spftware was installed. Any suggestions on a package to buy? Roxio 8.0?

Nero Ultimate

I use Nero for about everything. Works like a charm.

I have found Nero to be more reliable than Roxio.

Nero, hands down! :D

Nero is superior to Roxio when you need to make bootable CD's. I was able to make a bootable Windows slipstreamed CD with Nero. Roxio and Sonic RecordNow! did not work for me (to make a slipstreamed CD).

..and you know, I have used both programs.

Roxio is a far more elaborate program, but to me
it's far too bloated.

Nero is simple. It's easy to use and it does the job
extremely well.

Wow. Given the posts in this thread, Nero is looking like a champ.

This is a good posting topic -- as I find the recording software included with Thinkpads somewhat limited, and/or klunky to use.

Question: How does Nero stack up when it comes to authoring DVDs? (i.e., compared to the included Intervideo WinDVD Creator)

Whats really interesting is that, since i reimaged my T60p using the hidden partition, but DID NOT have the DVD Player installed (was using 2 batteries instead), that the Preloaded software wasnt installed. (CD/DVD related software)

The DVD player and CD/DVD burning software (along with the other IBM-specific software) is in the IBMTOOLS directory.

Although I should also add that I uninstalled the IBM Sonic software and installed Nero, which I much prefer.

Nero Vision is the DVD authoring software, very nice, very simple, and very reliable.

I spoke to IBM last night, and they said the only way to reinstall the IBM preloaded software was by reimaging the t60p, WITH the DVD drive in its bay. Someone on this post makes it sound like the IBM TOOLS directory has the software anyways? Can i install it from that directory, after the fact?

RecordNow! should be in the following directory:
C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\RecNow

DLA (Drive Letter Access) should be in the following directory:
C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DLA

WinDVD should be in the following directory:
C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\DVDPlay

Run Setup.exe from the above directories to reinstall each original application. This information is based on my T42. It's possible that Lenovo may have renamed the directories in the T60, but they should still be there. You can also do a search for text in a .ini file to find if the software is on your hard drive. For example, search for text "RecordNow" (without quotes) in ini files using windows search off of the Start Menu.
