Can't stop DVD-R/RW--Why?

#1 Post by WilsonF » Tue Apr 18, 2006 8:38 pm

I can't stop the DVD-R/RW drive in my T60p using EZeject or trying to stop it in device manager. Even if the drive has been empty since bootup, I always get a message saying the drive is in use.

I uninstalled the drive letter app and the RecordNow app and replaced them with Nero 6.6, which worked with my T42p, but I still get the same behavior with the T60p.

Does anyone know what software could be preventing me from stopping this drive. I would like to hot swap for the HDD in an ultra bay adapter that I use for backups.

Thanks,
Wilson

Yes, but the release lever sends a hardware signal to the system, which Windows will pick up; it doesn't really matter as the system will stop it in any case.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

To the forum moderators / Site Admin:
This question gets asked so frequently, will you consider a "sticky" for this?

There was an answer that worked--by disabling or uninstalling the DLA program:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=22037

quote:
"When I got my T42s (2373-K5H) that came factory pre-installed with Win'XP-Pro SP2, I had the same problem.

Phoned IBM technical support, and they suggested me to uniinstall this:
Drive letter access (DLA)

I never had this problem ever since..."

quote:
"The DLA program if i'm not mistaken does this:
The ability to convert your CD-RW into a pseudo-hard drive where you can drag-and-drop files into and from the CD-RW, in a windows-folder-tree fashion.
But I've had bad experience where data corruption was common, to the point that the entire disk's contents was lost a vew times (fortunately it was just test data).

Anyways, if you don't need DLA, then you can uninstall it from:
[Control_Panel]>>[Add_Remove_Programs] and look for the DLA program there. "

Thanks, I uninstalled DLA and RecordNow, and replaced it with Nero 6.6. I still have the problem, even stopping the Nero CDNow application.
