I am rather new to this forum but am very interested and like what I see. I am thinking about purchasing a T60, specifically model # 2623D4U, http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/defaul ... EDC=926294. I am going to college and am looking to buy this notebook as my main computer. Not only will I be doing work, but I also enjoying gaming. Most of the games I play are older but I also enjoy some of the newer ones. Because this is such a large investment for a college student, I would like to be sure of myself. Is it worth the money? Is this a high quality laptop? Where do I purchase it from? How reliable is it? How does it compare to other makers, or even other models of Thinkpads? If you could just give me some information on the notebook and anything you will think is neccesary in making my decision it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!

If it is going to be used as your main computer as well as being mobile, you might as well go with the T60. It is worth the money by any definition; and, yes, it is a very high quality laptop...Hence the expense, Thinkpads didn't get their reputation for quality and durability by knocking out machine after machine and not checking and doing extensive R&D and QA on them. Case in point, my 701c Thinkpad from 1995 still boots to Windows 95 and connects to the Internet just fine; I have taken it to meetings sometimes (mostly for the novelty appeal as well as having something small and able to work on) and it has thus far worked perfectly. Reliability is much the same, I have had my T43 for almost a year now and, despite lab conditions and constant movement on campus each day, I have seen no problems with it...Not even a BSOD, ever.

Where you purchase from depends on what you like and what kind of prices each retailer has for the model in question. I would either buy it from the academic institution, directly from IBM/Lenovo themselves, or Bill here.

The only question I would be asking now is "What else do you need on the T60 that not even a T43 or T42 has?"

The T43 and T42 are Vista-ready and can handle some heavy-duty games quite well. Is there anything else that you do that would benefit from something like the Core Duo and 3GB of RAM?

I just ordered one on Friday, so I haven't received it yet. It's $160 cheaper than the Lenovo site.

Thank you christopher_wolf for your information. I think it has helped me finalize my decision on getting a Thinkpad. You questioned me why not a T43 or T42. I was looking more at the dual core processor and the ability to have 3GB RAM. The speed of the RAM was also a plus. Also the fact that the T60 is the latest model. Are these reasons good enough or for my situation would you reccommend a T43 or T42?

Also, thanks macaddicted for the website. I have found that it is a great deal cheaper than Lenovo and the majority of other websites. I have only found that the differences in prices between certain models doesn't add up. I have addressed this in another post if you would be interested. It is just a curious situation.
