New t60 2007-68U minor nitpicks
New t60 2007-68U minor nitpicks
Recieved my replacement 68U yesterday. The first system had a Hydis display and the new one has a TMD, and I think the Hydis was better in terms of brightness and viewing angles.
There is a green light next to the USB ports on the right side of the TP, and this is light is always on when I use the tp. Is that normal because I don't remember this happening on my previous unit?
I do have a dark spot on the lower right corner on the lcd, but guess can live with that.
The hard disk protection seems to be too sensitive. If I even move the TP slightly, it stops the HDD (the tray indicator says so). Is that normal? (it goes to normal state in 1-2 seconds).
On the lower left corner of the lcd, when I move my eye just looking at it, I see some waves/ripples (it's not just me, my wife noticed the same too), though the TP is stationery. Can live with that but still curious wht could cause that!!
Any help appreciated about the green light and hard disk protection. Thanks!

The green light is normal. It turns on if there is an operational device in the Ultrabay such as a CDRW/DVDR, etc.bart wrote:There is a green light next to the USB ports on the right side of the TP, and this is light is always on when I use the tp. If you unlatch the CDRW/DVDR to remove it, the green light will turn off.

This is normal, too. The default from Lenovo is highest sensitivity. You can adjust this in ThinkVantage Active Protection System Configuration.bart wrote:The hard disk protection seems to be too sensitive. Given that you describe it as "ripples" I suspect that the back of the backlight glass is pressing against the inside of the lid in that spot. You can sometimes see a "ripple" effect if you press in the right location on the back of the LCD lid. The LCD can probably survive the pressure but it might make the display more succeptible to damage from an impact in that area. You might want to get that serviced.bart wrote:On the lower left corner of the lcd, when I move my eye just looking at it, I see some waves/ripples (it's not just me, my wife noticed the same too), though the TP is stationery. Note: having the color depth set to the default of 16-bit can cause some color banding which could be interpreted as ripples (depending on what your desktop image is) so you might want to set the screen to 32-bit just to be sure.

Thanks Bill and darren!
I don't know how to describe the 'ripple' effect. It's more like when I move my eye looking at that area, I see something like finger prints. It's not always there, only when I move my head looking at it...... I'm not even sure if Lenovo would acknowledge the issue if I sent this to them for service (considering pundit's experience)!!!

regarding the ripples...
I have experienced the same with my x40 display as well as with my T41 14'' SXGA+ Display. Although I can't explain the reasons for the ripples, I believe, that they are caused first because of the high resolution (the x40 Display has a relativ "high" resolution for its size) and the specific Display technology - as I could not notice the same effect when using a high resolution Flexview display.
Please notice that not everyone does notice this ripples and well I have got used to it, so I only notice them if I concentrate on the effect.
Finally that is something you'll have to live with ... or return the machine.

I've decided to live with it, this is my 3rd thinkpad in a month and I just do not have the patience to return and reorder. Moreover they don't really bother me...... and I'm not sending this in for service because I know lenovo would not acknowledge the problem.Toki wrote:Finally that is something you'll have to live with ... or return the machine.

I just noticed something else this morning. The plastic hooks on the top of the lcd/TP cover which latch on the base when closed, these are really loose on my 68U.
I can just shake them in all directions with my finger. Is that normal? Can't remember how tht was in my previous trial models....
Thanks.

Yes, this is perfectly normal. That's to insure that they do not bind.bart wrote:I just noticed something else this morning. The plastic hooks on the top of the lcd/TP cover which latch on the base when closed, these are really loose on my 68U.

Can I simply swap out my T5500 CPU in my 1953CTO T60 with a T5600? Or my T2400 core duo in my 2623D6U T60?
