SoundMAX Sound card

#1 Post by mukul_parkar » Wed Apr 26, 2006 2:00 am

Can anybody please tell me whether Thinkpad T60P has an integrated 5.1 sound card or something else?
From the device manager window, i can see that it is "SoundMAX integrated digital HD audio". but it doesnt say that its 5.1 or 2.1 or whatsoever.
Thanks,
Mukul

should be 5.1 or 7.1, not sure what Intel's HD audio spec is.

in any case, you'll only be able to access that via the SPDIF port on the dock.

edit: actually, nevermind. The Intel HD audio cannot encode a 5.1 signal (ie, DD or DTS) so you will never get 5.1 audio from something that needs the audio chip to decode the descrete signals (ie, a game) unless the dock has discrete analoge outputs for all the channels. Movies are something else though, and you can use digital passthrough to send the unaltered, already encoded digital signal over the digital audio cable.
