Battery Error Is Detected
Anyone have a problem where once the system goes to sleep (and i put it in my bag to take home, I noticed it was off when taken out of the bag, however it was hot. I powered it up and got a message from Message Center "battery error detected" battery is too hot remove it and cool it to room temperature.
Windows did not state that there was a fatal system error. Any help will be nice..

OMG..... Do you know how to take care your lappy?
Never! Never! Never! Sleep your notebook &
put it into your bag.
You are lucky that your IBM doesn't burning.....!

It is perfectly safe to put your system in Suspend Mode and put it in a travelling bag whilst going from one place to another.

I've read before about someone hibernating their Thinkpad, putting it in a backpack, and running off to class. But he didn't wait for the hibernate to finish, and when he picked up the machine the hard drive protect kicked in and prevented the hibernate from completing. Since his computer was in his backpack, it got really hot. Could something like that have happened here?
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Most likely that is what happened in this case; I usually have pretty short suspend times...but I always check to makes sure that it goes into suspend or hibernate first before I put it into any bag and start moving somewhere with it.RonS wrote:I've read before about someone hibernating their Thinkpad, putting it in a backpack, and running off to class. I used to be pretty paranoid that the system wouldn't go into the correct sleep mode in time before it got put in a bag and moved.

I have suspended my laptop and moved it in my bag just fine. I wake it up in a different location for the most part, so I do *not* rush the suspend process.
1. Disconnect local network drives (they won't be there in the next location)
2. Disconnect the network connection (wired or wireless) with Access Connections.
3. Disconnect, turn off, remove the Sony Ericsson card if I was using that.
4. Wait until the disk light goes out and the task manager shows about zero CPU.
5. Close the lid.
6. Wait for the beep and the half-moon.
7. Safe to get and it will *not* wake up on its own.

"hibernate" is safe, will not wakeup it own for sure.
"Standby/Sleep" is another case, have way bigger chance
it will wake it's own inside your bag.
For upper poster(s), it's your lappy, feel free to sleep/standby
yours & have bigger chance to make it burn in the bag.
But please don't recommand others to do this unwise
things & burn their lappy....!
Final word, Use "hibernate" if you want to put it
in a bag....!

When you are in "Sleep" mode. the lappy is not totally
off. if you press the keys it will wakeup. Also,
sometimes some worms spyware will wakeup the lappy
too.
Since we are using Thinkpad. It's strong. so most likely
the outer force will not make the screen or anythings
that press the keys by mistake/pressure when inside the bag.
If you use other brand lappy that not as strong, the outer
force/pressure may press the keys & wake your lappy inside
the bag, so you know, cause heatup & burn.
Forget to say, some lappy have Media keys at outside,
if the media keys is press by accident inside the bag,
it turn on the lappy too inside the bag.
So, "hibernate" is safe, it will not wakeup it own for sure.
Why take the wisk with "Sleep" mode....! Remember,
it's your lappy, not mine.

Worms and spyware cannot wake up the lappy in sleep state. The CPU is powered off.Talon88 wrote:When you are in "Sleep" mode. the lappy is not totally

I have never seen the Thinkpad wake up from suspend without the cycle trigger key being hit, either the lid being opened or the Fn button being pressed. The only other way it can start up without those is via the "Wake from LAN" feature.
