T60 Dual Layer

#1 Post by lrrobinson » Fri May 05, 2006 9:36 pm

Hi,

I feel completely stupid asking this, but hopefully someone will answer this question. I am getting a T60 (2623-D6U) courtesy of some nice pricing. The page says that it's a 4X DVD-Burner.

Is it this one:

Dual layer burning would be nice for the future.

Thanks!

Wow, nice! I didn't expect that. The order page summary doesn't list any part number and it reads: Optical device: 4X Max DVD Recordable ATAPI Ultrabay Slim drive (Standard). This of course does not tell me much. I really do appreciate your fast answer!

Yes, it's my understanding that there's only one dvd burner shipping with the T6x. It's the multiburner. I saw that in some places, in Lenovo's literature, the dvd burner is not referred to as the multiburner. But a sales rep told me they are all multiburners. So the one you get should do dual layer burning.

Thanks for the info, I was just a little concerned because I read a review the exact same model on this site, but the specs were a little different )CD-RW/DVD) and I just thought maybe they slipped a different DVD burner in there. DL isn't a necessity per se, it would just be real cool and help with resale value!

There are models with cd-rw/dvd drives, that only read dvds and are not dvd burners. So you want it to specify dvd burner or multiburner somewhere.

That said, looking in the tabook, which lists specs on all T6x models, the 2623-D6U does come with the multiburner.

BTW: IIRC, Multi-Burner is a trademark that refers to a drive supporting DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM.

Really? So can the T60 burner handle +R?

Yes, it can. I just wanted to clarify that the MultiBurner moniker doesn't refer to that or DL.

I just burned something tonight for the first time. I used DVD Decrypter, burning on a TDK 8x DVD+R, and had set the software to burn at "max". It reached a disappointing 2.3x speed. Why is that? Isn't the burner 4x? Should I switch to a 4x disc for optimal results? I might just have to go back to my NEC 16x drive in external exclosure.
