Use Peer to Peer with non IBM laptops

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use the peer to peer function (inparticular the chat and whiteboard functions) in the Thinkvantage with a non Thinkpad laptop ... i.e. if I downloaded it from the IBM site and installed in on the a Toshiba would it function ... or is there another way to achieve this ...
