Can you use just an ultrabay battery to save weight?

If I want to make my thinkpad T60p lighter for carrying, and I always plug it in to use it, can I remove the primary battery and use it with just an ultrabay battery? or will it not boot up without the primary installed?

Im pretty sure you could power up your thinkpad with just the ultrabay battery.

It's probably a cleaner solution to use the normal battery and leave the ultrabay slim empty. You can get a blank bezel to cover the openning.

Also, some other people have pointed out that you can actually see (and therefore, possibly damage) the mainboard when the standard battery is removed.

The part is called a Travel Cover, FRU 13N5108. See on following page under Item 15.
System service parts - ThinkPad T60/p
Try to order from here: Call IBM parts help at 1-800-765-5944

I think that's for the drive bay and not the battery.

I was referring to foodle's comment. That is the Travel Cover for the Ultrabay Slim drive bay. AFAIK, there is no Travel Cover for the main battery.
