Wireless working perfectly but not with "Access Connect

Wireless connections work perfectly via the windows built-in connection software. But not at all with the Thinkpad Software.

Upon opening the software and creating a new profile (ensuring that windows built in software is disabled as i'm doing this), I then select the "wireless lan" and see that my intel pro 3945ABG is selected and so i hit next. And then clicking "find networks", I simply get the message "no networks found". I know for a 100% fact that several networks exist, as if i re-enable the windows built in, the networks are detected and i can connect without problems (via standard windows connection software)

I'm running a t60p with an Intel Pro 3945ABG, no problems with any devices, no other connection problems or drop outs that i'm aware of, just this software.

It is the 4.12 version of the software. I've uninstalled the access connection software and reinstalled, run the software updater, everything, and still it cannot find any networks.

I've tried typing in the actual SSID of the network, and then, without being able to fill in any of the other details like security drop down etc (because they are empty) I hit next and the program crashes citing a gui error.

This is frustrating me to no end. Have i overlooked something so simple?

Try this:
Download the wireless driver from the following page, then double click on the file 7awc09ww.exe to unpack the drivers. The downloads from IBM are usually saved in the C:\DownloadDirector\ folder.
Intel PRO 3945bg and 3945abg Mini PCI adapter wireless software for Windows 2000, XP - ThinkPad T60/p, X60/s

Download Access Connections from the following page, then double click on the file 79cn27ww.exe to unpack the drivers.
ThinkVantage Access Connections for Windows 2000 and XP - Notebooks

Uninstall Access Connections in Add or Remove Programs. Reboot. Uninstall your Intel(R) PRO Network Adapters and Drivers, and uninstall the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless Software. Reboot. When the found hardware wizard comes up, choose cancel.

Now run Software Installer (uncheck box to "Retrieve latest information on the internet") and install the Intel wireless driver and PROSet software (do not install Access Connections yet). Reboot.

Now run Software Installer (uncheck box to "Retrieve latest information on the internet") and install Access Connections. Reboot.

What happens if you open Access Connections and click on Find without first trying to create a new profile?

the "Find" option is greyed out!

I will try your installation routine today, and let you know.

Ok so i followed the procedure step by step, and still the same problem occurs.

I should mention that I formatted the IBM out of the box, however in the first few hours that i used it (before format) i do recall seeing the find networks thingie to work properly.

any ideas?

See if the tip posted in the following thread by Riddil will solve your problem.

Worked perfectly thankyou very much.

One thing that doesn't seem to work, however, is the "over-ride tcp/ip settings" for particular location profiles. However i think this is a seperate issue.

Having spent countless hours trying to resolve this problem on my T60p -- renaming the redundant DLL's finally worked -- but you have to get to "the last one".

Many thanks!
