Anyone's recently shipped T60/p include Recovery CDs?

#1 Post by tselling » Mon May 15, 2006 3:08 pm

It looks like my recently shipped 200783U shipped with Recovery CDs. I looked up the parts via the serial # and it included the following line entry:

41W1616 42J6269 RCD WXPPRO US ENGLISH YES

Its still in Louisville, but should get it by Wed and then will know for sure.

HUH!!!

How'd you get that so fast Teresa?

I just got another email from them saying my 2623-DDU was delayed again and won't be shipped until the THIRD week of June.

Interesting note about the recovery CDs, be sure to let us know if you get them.

Regards,

I called up for them to ship the disks to me since I had a problem with my T43 creating discs and I didn't want to happen with my T60, they shipped me TWO sets of disks! Oddly enough my T43 came with a XP Home CD, but the T60 came with NOTHING. The OEM XPP disk from Microsoft would have been nice.

Got my 2623DDU this morning. Aside from the laptop and power cable, there wasn't anything else in the box.

I just finished creating them via R&R. Took me 2 DVD's and one CD (first disc burned).

Now I need to figure out if I want to do a clean reinstinall

Ditto here.

Ordered same unit as you -- which should be arriving today -- has the same product code in the parts listing page for my particular unit.

If its true -- that's sweet -- I've always thought it a good idea to include *some* sort of recovery media w/computers (& notebooks), rather than just a partition on a hard drive.

-CupOfJoe

P.S. -- I really hope that product code means physical CDs, and not just the recovery partition. I thought IBM (Lenovo) had completely given up on supplying recovery CDs w/shipping units -- and that they were only available upon request.

BIG TIME EDIT: Just received my new laptop. There is NO recovery CD included with it. Shucks. So, in short, I'm not sure what that product code in the parts listing page actually means.

BIG TIME EDIT (again) : Just got off the phone with Lenovo -- and after some conversation back and forth, they are going to send out the recovery CDs to me no charge. I basically complained (in a nice way) that I've had problems in the past with bit rot (CDs not reading after a year or two), and didn't want to be stuck without a recovery solution in hand. Sweeeeeeeet. I also mentioned that the recovery CD part number DOES show up on the individual machine parts listing page (as the guy verified that the FRU listed was the same as the part he is sending me), and he told me he was going to look into why they are not sending them with the units (or why they are appearing on the parts listing page).

Hmm, I think stamped CDs do not necessarily have better durability and reliability than burned ones - if you burned them slow and well on some quality media. I know people copy music CDs from originals *just* for a better sound quality.

Interesting. Point taken.

Although, from experience, and a non-scientific (anecdotal, if you will) point of view, I've always preferred stamped CDs. But, as you point out, that may just be my own private pipe dream. :)

In any case, as I pointed out in my post previous post above (which I just edited), there ain't no recovery CD included.

I was taken aback and sorely disappointed there was no Windows XP CD with my 2623DDU order - I'm paying for it, why not give me the physical media? Hell, even DELL has an option to ship with it.

My 200783U just arrived. No Recovery CDs despite what the parts lookup for the serial # said.

And unfortunately it has an obvious black spot on the LCD. It looks to be 2-3 times bigger than a dead pixel to me. Not sure if I should try to get it fixed under warranty (will they claim its a dead pixel) or just return it :(

My custom 2613EDU T60p is going back tomorrow for a stuck blue pixel.... barely enough time to get it returned under the 30 day return policy.

Leaves me sharing my husband's T41p for now.

I called the replacement parts desk, and the guy simply didn't care what I wanted to order so long as I had a part number. Does anyone have an FRU for the recovery media?

Received my factory made recovery CDs today (overnighted -- now that's quick!)

There's 7 CDs -- One "Rescue & Recovery CD" (bootable), and 6 product CDs.

Anyway -- they're good to have -- but if you use them, I'd suppose you'd need to devote at least 3 hours to go through the whole process.

In my experience there is no substitute for the CD's from the factory. Especially if you have a complete hard disk failure, or upgrading your HDD.

When I have used mine (recently) I find that it goes really quickly. Just for kicks I timed it from the beginning to end. Starting with a new blank hard drive. I was pleasantly surprized as it took just over 1.5 hours. :D

Yep -- still evaluating my newly received T60p (2007-83U).

Will give a write up to the board within a week or so (I'll start a separate thread) after I've had a chance to thoroughly give the unit the once over.

(So far, I'm a happy camper -- man, these things are built like tanks.)

Well my 200783U returned from Ezserv with a new LCD to replace the one with a black spot. I don't see any stuck or dead pixels and no black spot so I'm happy. There were a lot of fingerprints on the LCD though. Would have thought they would clean them off.

The 2613EDU is still waiting here for pickup. Supposedly they issued a call tag for Wed... but no pickup Wed or Thurs. Has to be there by tomorrow for 30 day return policy. So after my complaints to Lenovo rep, UPS is to pickup today for Saturday nextday delivery and I don't have to pay for it. I don't know if Lenovo or UPS is paying for it...

Hopefully all's well that ends well :)
