Screen protector for the thinkpad?

I'm sure you have all had the key/trackpad prints on your screen, so I was wondering if anyone had picked up a screen protector to put in between your keyboard + screen when it is closed.

I know there are a bunch of nice ones for the mac with the logo printed on it and all, but is there anything similar like that for the thinkpads? If not, what would be a good place to pick up a nice generic one?

just buy some black felt cloth and cut it to size. Works very well, is cheap and black felt looks nice too. It doesn't have a logo tho but on the flip side it also doubles as cloth to wipe your screen clean :)

An excellent solution is an A4 piece of paper (standard paper for printers). Works for me ;)

The important thing to keep in mind here is that we would all be well-advised to use something. It's a simple fact of life that sooner or later your screen is going to pick up some scratches that won't buff out unless you keep something between the keyboard and the LCD.

At first, you'll probably just notice the TrackPoint head leaving an impression print on the screen (which is easily wiped clean), but over time, marks like these will lead to surface scratches and pitting if you aren't extremely careful. It's the keys themselves that are most often to blame, and the key strike phenomenon is much worse if you work in dusty environments.

Also, in these days of notebook-compatible backpacks, this tip is probably more important than ever, as even the best of these packs do tend to allow some case compression -- which hastens the whole process.

I just ordered this for my 2623-DDU. I purchased their cleaning cloth and cleaning solution for my LCD monitor and figured I'd give their screen protector a try.

I might advise against this, as paper (wood product) will scratch the screen over time. Usually not that long of period before the scratches appear & it's too late.

The best is any one of a number of soft cloth protectors that are sold online.

Did you order the 15" size? Did you order a custom fit one?

I want to order one, but I don't even have my T60 yet, so I can't measure the screen... :?

the standard 15" size. I wasn't even aware of a custom option; nevertheless it should work out fine (I hope :p)

Shaggymac has custom sizes, see link ...I ordered a 14" for my T41 a while back ago that is now protecting my T60 display. Definitely worth the investment.

thanks, i went ahead and purchased the 14.1" panther black through shaggymac.

Also to the poster who mentioned that using paper is a bad idea...thanks. I'll just not move it around for now until the screen protector comes in :)

Instead of paper, you could also use a, large, sheet of lens paper or lint-free tissue; provided you could find such material easily, but, if you are going to such lengths, why not pick up a dedicated screen protector anyway? :)

How's the fit of the 14" screen protector (I'm assuming you have a 14" screen)? If you were to buy again, would you go with a custom size?

Thanks!

i know what you're talking about...when you buy a mac (at least the powerbook I had), there is a sheet of that in between the screen.

My order from shaggymac shipped, just got the email conversation.

I have the 14.1", non-widescreen...it is a perfect fit. The cormers are rounded, so there is a very small amount of screen visible at the corners, but height and width are perfect.

alll you really need is to make sure it covers the keyboard + trackpad nubbin. Not a big deal if the sides of the screen are not completely covered as long as the keys themselves are.. Though from the way the screen is constructed, even if the side keys are not covered, it shouldnt be a big deal, since the sides shouldnt be flexing as compared to the middle (at least on mine..i usually only get the trackpad inprint + some other keys in the middle)

I place the protector over the keys, it covers them completely and fits perfectly side to side along the keyboard edges, and the little 1/2 round cutout right above the ESC key is my guide to where to place it top to bottom along the keyboard.
