Guys, I am outraged. I was trying to see what were the advantages over having the T60, and when it was the only dual core it made sense. But the R60 has even more options than the T60's in the middle level. I mean the R60's have Wireless, Btooth, Dual core, SXGA, more than decent videocards, AND Firewire AND S-Video.

Tell me that the R is not going to have a magnesium rollcage...Well, even if my T is having one, I am not looking forward having it tried out (And BTW are all lids in T60's titanium reinforced?)...

I am not saying : woo, make the R's worse, But why have the T's with less features for a greater price? Let us complain, have them rewrite the bios, if S-Video is not supported, so at least we could make use of those 5 USD adapters that exist out there, if cannot stand up to the R level .

I just read where, in the interest of customer satisfaction (sic), Lenovo is revising all ThinkPad models (read - ours will be obsolete) every 45 days. They are seeking to be the industry leader in ultra short product cycles. Guess I will be getting my checkbook out soon -

- The R series is much bigger and heavier than the T series. My R40 is about 6.6lbs (3kg) and 1.6" (40mm) thick. The T60 is 2/3 of this in size and weight.
- The R series does not have a magnesium alloy lid on the 14" model like the T60.
- The R series does not have a rubberised paint on the lid.
- I don't think you can get UXGA on the R series.
- Internally, they are very different also. This does allow the R series to run a little bit cooler (the fan might not turn on as much).
- The R60 has the same safety features as the T60.
- There is not that much price difference between equivalent performance R60 and T60 models.

This sounds amazingly familiar; almost as if a guy in a black turtleneck was giving a presentation on how to hard-link hardware and software and make the consumers upgrade the hardware after only a few software cycles.

I don't know, though...45 days is pretty short for a product cycle, especially with top-end business class machines like Thinkpads. I can't see something like that happening, not to mention that it will either be pushing the engineers way too hard or they are going to have an explosion of modified sub-types of the T60 that are going to be sold as a completely new model...Which still doesn't make all that much sense to me.

- R60 no longer have FlexView (IPS) displays. Latest model having them was R51. This is imho major loss.
- R60 has one year warranty only

As for size and weight, if you compare it to T60 with 15" display it is not much difference.

R60 has 3-year warranty. R60e is the one with 1-year warranty.

The R series has always been much heavier than the T series. The models in the R series weight differently depending on the CPU and internal options. The T series all weight pretty much the same.

Since I already have an R52 I would rather get the R60 so I can continue to use my Ultrabay Enhanced drives...

According specs. T60 15" is about 2.6 kg while R52 is 3.0 kg. As for warranty R series have one year warranty over here (Central Europe) except R50p model.

It was a long day yesterday and I was just being humorous (or not). I did not read that anywhere, just created it as a joke, based on my experience (almost)

Since I'm an early adopter and like to have the latest ThinkPad, I buy a lot of computers. Seem's like the minute I get mine, spend all the time it takes to customize it to my liking.......it's obsolete

I never leave home without it (hence the X60s), yes the basic list is: (1) RAZR cell. (2) ThinkPad. (3) misc tech toys, iPod, PSP, and , uh, oh yeah... (4) american express card

I am not at all that dishearted, but your replies were something like an emergency room in a hospital. Yes I know many arguments pro T series, and it's well designed and thoughtout (except some details)...perhaps I should think of it as a top athlete on a diet?

You are lucky... the guys at the office have to put up with me daily.

We have regular meetings with Lenovo and while they might have 45 day cycles on some models,the road map I have seen for "corporate" business models or (sorry can't remember exact name they have for this) is still a long time frame. Lenovo I would guess is trying to do all which isn't bad, have models for consumers and those smaller business that might want all new hardware and features, while preserving the "workhorse" or std business models for the long term. They change a cpu etc here and there but they are packed to start. Mine is the 200793U. We have special bid pricing and get aggressively priced systems and purchase many systems a year. Just info from what I have learned and know..

Bucks the trend of the R40 w/P4 = cheaply built T30, R50 = cheap T40, R51 = cheap T41/42, R52 = cheap T43, now, doesn't it?

I suspect there'll be a T61 out soon to fix this discrepancy...

I just wish the R60 started out lower end, with some Core Solos in there to slow it down a bit... and maybe an R60e once the Yonah Celeron comes out (or is the Core Solo effectively the Yonah Celeron?)

/me is pretty happy with his R51e, though...
