T 60 ...... 2 months old and 13 issues

#1 Post by FirstSouthernBankers » Mon May 22, 2006 9:42 am

My beef is not with IBM or Lenovo, or what what ever they are called today. I got my T60 brand new the first of April 2006 as a replacement for my problem plagued T-42. The T 42 in 12 months had 2 screens replaced, a system board replaced, a hard disk drive replaced, stuck keys, loose screws, and several other less major issue.

IBM/Lenovo always appeared to go out there way to honor my on site warranty and try to resolve my outstanding issues with the T42 and now with my T60. The folks who I have spoken to at their customer center in North Carolina have been fanastatic with quickly returning phone calls, up dating me and aggressiving seeking to resolve all my issues. Every tech that came out was always on time to with in 15 minutes. I found each tech to have been quite skilled in their craft. But its just got to the point that new issues keep popping up. I felt uncomfortable using the T42. So along came the new T60. Brand spanking new.

From the second week of delivery, I began to have technical issues.
And again, I must say that IBM/Lenovo appears to very or extremely helpful in resolving my issues. The techs are very thorough and don't seem to be on a stop watch when you are on a tech support call. The techs on the phone are very friendly and knowledgeable.

But my new issues on my new T 60 are;

1. at start up blue screen with error messages indicating bad video adpater. The the machines just automatically reboots. Often it take some time up to 6-11 tries of me or the system to restart before it works. But then its works great.

2.My wifi system including locator is constantly in need of reconstructing. It fails not often, but it does fail.

3.My sound system seems to work when its wants to work.

4. It seems hard ro shut down. Often when I think it has shut down, I find the battery dead because it did not shut down.

5. I have to reset the clock in the task bar almost every other day.

6. The video cable might be and issue here.

7. The video card might be and issue.

8. I down loaded a 79 meg driver. But that did not solve the problem.

I got a call last saturday night ( 10.31 pm) from IBM/Levono parts department. I was told that the needed parts won't be in for up to another 10 days.

The issues I have have been going on since early April. Now I may have to wait up to another 10 days.

When the T60 is running, I can not complain about the performance of my new T60. It performs wonderfully. It works great if and when its up and running. At present I can for the most part only use my new T60 with an external monitor at home in the office, where I have desk top computers. I don't feel comfortable using it other wise.

I can not complain about IBM/ Lenovo.

My first Laptop was a thinkpad. At this point I am begining to question my loyality to the IBM brand. I have collegues with competitor brands who don't seem to have the issues I have and they paid in some cases less that half the cost of the T42 or the T60.

While statistically it's a stretch to say you got two bad apples, back to back, I would have to say that's probably the case. Aside from the relatively minor annoyances of my T60p, it has worked flawlessly. And one can feel the superior build quality. Perhaps in light of your plight, Lenovo might be inclined to let you return and reorder a brand spankin' new one?

what memory do you have in that T60..?
did the tech check that when he came out..?
(i assume that you still have the on site warranty upgrade!?)

IF you added memory, then try removing the add in memory and running the thinkpad with only the factory installed memory..
EVEN if lenovo installed the add in memory..

there is an even chance this is the cause..

if all you have is the factory installed part, try reseating that part..
or change the socket from the one it is in to the "upper" slot..

there is a 2% chance this will fix the problem..

otherwise, you might just want to get the new T60 replaced or at least have the system board replaced..
