just wondering what the odds are, of me getting 1 or more dead pixels with a new t60

also, i bought a new 20" lcd monitor recently, with an lg.philips IPS panel. So i kind of studied the panel technologies, and learned that with TN, a dead pixel/subpixel is permanently lit, while with MVA/S-PVA the dead pixels are permanently off. I dont think i've ever read anywhere what the case with LG.Philips IPS panels is

18 stuck sub-pixels here on a 15" IPS.

Haven't noticed any dead/stuck yet on my 14.1" SXGA+ (Samsung). Though the more I say this, the more worried I get...

i got a t43 with a 14.1" SXGA, it has no dead pixels, but i regret i did not go with a 15" IPS. I'm actually selling it just because of that, now that i upgraded my LCD monitor from an old TN panel to an lg.philips IPS panel. that 14" must be the worst lcd screen i have ever seen

One greenish dead pixel. I'm sure it's dead... one of those permanently-lit dead pixels. I've tried flashing it to live. No cigar.

I am still undecided as to whether this forum represents the best sample population for these kinds of things. Nevertheless, it is the only sample population the general public has...

No problems here.

got 1 stuck pixel on the first day on my T60P. then it was gone the next day. none has reappered yet, so far...

Got mine today (T60, SXGA, 14"). First thing I checked was the screen. No dead or stuck pixels whatsoever. I was a happy camper.

But 5 minutes ago, it was there, sitting in the middle of the screen, seemingly laughing at me with its white little face (metaphorically speaking). After a reboot, it appeared to be gone, until I loaded a website with white background. There it was again, now black. Funny little bugger. That moment, I remembered a thread I read on this forum about some program that occupies exactly 1 pixel on the screen and can be mistaken as a dead pixel (I can't find that thread again). I moved the mouse pointer on the "dead pixel", resulting in a little scrollbar appearing.

I'm happy I have no dead pixels (yet), but how do I kill this thing so that it doesn't appear again and scare me to death? And what does it anyway, besides making people think their display is broken?

[edit]I think it has something to do with Ultranav, in particular with the scrolling function of the 3rd mouse button. I deactivated that function and the black dot is gone[/edit]

i should have run a different poll, it seems like 14" TN panels are usually perfect, it's the 15" IPS panels that seem to come with dead/stuck pixels. Although i'm still not sure what a stuck pixel is, i'll have to re.read the forum threads describing this 'phenomenon'

I had one stuck Red about 1" up and to the left of the center of the screen straight out of the box. EasyServ even sent it back unfixed after Tech Support said they'd fix it.

They aren't fixing any stuck pixels under warranty unless it meets the ISO 13406-2 Standard and IBM's own standards derived from that.

I'm wary about some showing up, after reading some other posts. But I'll keep a keen eye out for 'em, as I'm within the 30-day return period should one (or more) rear its ugly presence.

One stuck red pixel a bit up and to the left of the middle of the screen.

Haven't notice a single one yet.

LCD always clean and free from stuck or dead pixels while it is still under my tender loving care.

I suppose it is possible that bad pixels can show up later, but in my experience, I have never seen a panel develop bad pixels later. My old Dell Latitude CPi had a single dead one, and my ThinkPad had a stuck red and stuck (partially) blue one, but they never developed further abnormalities.

More common is pressure damage to the display. This is especially noticeable on some older Dell models. Some early Dell 600m models developed this in the shape of the round Dell logo on the top of the LCD case. The Dell 300m developed bright white patches in the shape of a smiley face

I've never seen a ThinkPad T series develop pressure damage.

Stuck pixels can be generated and appear on any LCD TFT. Although, that said, they can also be made to go away.

I have never, however, seen a truly dead pixel pop up on an otherwise fine LCD TFT that was undamaged and showed no signs of pixel problems before.

Stuck pixles can be generated if you stress a particular pixel's hardware enough. Say, running a series of flashing colors, RGB then B/W, fast enough. Stuck pixels manifest themselves due to tiny differences in the TFTs for each pixel; slightly different response and lead times, etc. You can make stuck pixels go away in much the same manner, simply run something for an extended period of time that keeps making that pixel change near the limit of its response time; i.e. that same color loop sequence that could have generated the stuck pixel in the first place.

then what about playing intensive games in the TP? Mine is warcraft 2 and many high graphics intensive games. Does this mean that nothing will happen now because my TP is new but later on as the years go by, my TP will start to get more stuck and dead pixels?

Ordered a first batch of 25 T60's and 6 of them have at least one stuck pixel, very dissapointing.

To get rid of stuck pixels, there are two things to try.

First, hit the middle trackpoint scroll button, it controls a white pixel which randomly jumps around the screen. That may solve your problem.

Second, find an online video site and search for stuck pixel repair (or something like that). You may be able to find a video you can loop to try to fix the pixels.
