t60p slow boot up times

Does anyone have the problem of extremely slow boot up times? I am getting a total of 45 seconds of boot up time.

I taken a lot of crap off the boot up (google desktop, picasa, symantec, disk keeper) but i left a lot of the thinkpad services on.

Is there anything that i can take out of startup list and still have the computer functioning well?

There is still stuff that can slow the boot up process down significant;y

Get Bootvis; and have it try to optimize your system first. It is also a good idea to have something like CCleaner go through the registry and then clean it of dead refs so the system doesn't waste time during boot initializing and linking them.

Also, you can setup different boot INIs; go to Start>Run... and type in "msconfig" and then get rid of as many non-essential tasks and processes in the "Services" and "Startup" tabs. Reboot, analyze, repeat until satisfied.

HTH :)

Its ridiculous that IBM has these boottimes on a PRO(!) Laptop. I had a t60p for a while and tried to remove all the crap but it was still slow. I'd recommend you to just wipe the whole HDD including the restore partition and make a clean install of WXP or Vista.

Just wondering -- what are you guys doing that requires booting all the time?

I personally reboot my laptop once every month or so (sometimes less). I just put it to sleep when I'm not using it.

Good Point! That's what many of us do. :)

That still doesn't justify the installed bloat-crapware that turns a high-speed computer into a lame duck. I want to be able to reboot faster than on my destop pc, which is now over 3 years old and takes about 20 seconds for WXP.

No offense, but I believe Microsoft Windows (and other Microsoft products) are one of the biggest culprits out there. Also, as you add hardware, that will slow down boot-up times. Think: TrackPoint plus TrackPad, WiFi, ethernet, hard drive protection, USB, optical drive, infrared, modem, bluetooth, etc.

Besides, what good is an operating system by itself? True, Windows has a lot of built-in features, but much of that could be considered bloat-crapware by some. Case in point - Vista's Aero Glass. To really use our computers to their potential, we end up installing all variety of software - some of which slows down boot-up times. [I will admit that too much software out their today wants to keep itself resident so it will load faster (you know, all those little icons in the system tray). I do like to choose which programs are resident on Windows startup.]

But hey, whatever floats your boat. It's no skin off my back if you want to strip your system to the bare essentials. Go for it. But some of us actually like the software features that IBM/Lenovo supplies with the ThinkPads. :)
