the 760 series was WAY different from the 755 series..
the 770 series was different from the 760 series..
and so on and so forth, ad inf. ad nauseum..

this goes on and on and will always go on and on..

you can be assured that when and IF lenovo ever f***s up the thinkpad we will [censored] like crazy around this place..

one might say that the lenovo 3000 notebook is a cheapened thinkpad but it really looks to me like lenovo is learning from the thinkpad team and improving their product..

or, put another way, the chinese are copying the japanese and american design elements and features and so forth..

my T60p is different and better than my T43p, which was a slight improvement over the T42p and (again) ad infinitum, ad nauseum..

if the original poster has any worries, the R50p was a T41p (or was it a T40p?) with the 15 inch flexview display wrapped in the cheaper R series plastics and had a list price of $4000~ more or less..

so please stop the lenovo bashing until they deserve it.. OK..??!

thats quite true... havent found any bad points about my t60 also... the build quality is just so much better than acer and dell... but the rubberised paint on the top cover is a pain to maintain... it attracts fingerprints and get chipped pretty easily around the edges.

Wow! I must've missed something for Bill to say that!

The T60 is made of two materials:
15.0" -- base and lid made of Carbon-Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP)
14.1" -- base made of CFRP, lid made of magnesium alloy.

I wouldn't call either of the materials "shiny".

I can see why the original poster has this question. It does look like the T60 has a shiny surface (sort of like those special edition S series that were only sold in Japan) as opposed to the matte surface that we are used to.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

I have personal experience with every _ThinkPad T - Series_ since they were introduced. Each one is a bit different as progress is made and new technologies and components are implemented. Along this long road of ThinkPad ownership, I have also tried other brands alongside of my mainstay ThinkPad. Not once have I come upon another brand that is even close to the level of quality, durability, stability or quality of components.

I have three brand new 60 series ThinkPads, the T , X & Z. I have owned and used these quite extensively since each were introduced and they are fantastic! Absolutely the finest examples of the ThinkPad brand... period.

So while it can certainly be said that I'm pro ThinkPad, it can also be said with great accuracy that I have, and will always be open to other brands and new technologies. There has not been one brand of notebook computer to date that compares.

ThinkPad computers "are" the computers that run my business. We have not been let down yet.

I don't know what I would do if they stopped making Thinkpads... I think I would stop using computers.

That's all I have to say.
