I woundnt dare buy a disk from Toshiba. Crappy warranty policy.

I have had very good luck with Toshiba drives.

And yet can you imagine how much heat this drive may put out!....

It may not run hot at all, with that rotational speed. The latency seems kind of sucky, but if it really delivers 150MB/s in actual use, I will consider picking one up in the next year. It'll be nice to just keep all my photos on one laptop and just back up occasionally, and still have room to grow...

I'll be happy when the 5K160 actually ships, or when the Seagate 160 comes out in SATA...

I certainly agree with you. I was just joking about the heat, as there seems to be so many people here complaining about heat from their new ThinkPads...

Yes, that's a great benefit of a large drive, being able to have all your files in one place. My problem is the amount of files I tend to accumulate therefore I always seem to fill even the largest drives in my laptop relatively quickly...

gotta agree with the warranty part. If you are european you should check out the manufacturer's site first if there is a decent RMA system in place. It's not like in the US where it is easy to send a harddisk back when it is broken.

I found out the hard way with Fujitsu. If you're in Europe they won't handle any RMA at all. They tell you to go back to your dealer and that's it.

As far as I know only Seagate seems to offer an easy replacement system in Europe when your HDD dies within the warranty time. Go to their website, enter the serial of your broken HDD, get a RMA code and mail them the broken drive and wait for a new one to arrive.

I gotta have one for my Z60m. Anyone know where/when the average home user can pick up one of these drives? Any idea on how much it will cost? What would be the best way to transfer my existing drive contents (including the ThinkVantage utility partition) to the new disk?

AHHHH when will the 5k160 come out!!! Seems like it's taking forever. Everybody is out of stock!

its only 4200rpm, it wont work for me. If its 5400rpm i'd buy one.

Hmmm, it appears that Computer Giants is now listing the drive as discontinued/unavailable, and I can't find this drive listed anywhere, even at the official Toshiba distributors.

Does this sound like a drive problem or a normal delay in making the drives available? I also notice that DELL has some support articles referring to the MK2035GSS drive. Perhaps they've purchased all of Toshiba's drives.

Anyone have any more information on availability or pricing?

Aha, this drive is finally listed on Froogle:

There are currently 9 listings ranging in price from $257.50 (eWiz.com) thru $399. Does anyone have any experience dealing with any of these merchants or suggestions for others?

Has it really been 2 years since I upgraded to that 200GB drive?

Now I see there is a 400GB drive available and am thinking of upgrading again. It is the MK4058GSX. Anyone know whether this ( ATA-8 ) drive will 'just work' (albeit with a possibly reduced throughput rate) with the Z60m's drive interface (the 200G drive had an ATA-7 interface)?
