I have the Advanced Mini-Dock, and thinking about getting a 24" flat panel. Can my T60 with ATI Radeon X1400 drive WUXGA resolution (1920x1200) through the DVI port, while simultaneously driving native res (1400x1050) on the laptop screen?

Absolutely! I'm running one on the Advanced Dock right now. Mini-dock will be the same. The X1400 is powerful enough and has the memory to handle this with ease.

Are you running 1400x1050 on your laptop? I know font and icon sizes are adjustable, but how does 1920x1200 on the 24" screen compare to 1400x1050 on the 14" screen?

Right now, I'm using a 19" lcd monitor (at 1280x1024 res), and I usually move windows with lots of text to that screen to make reading easier. Wondering if I would do the same with a 24" screen running at 1920x1200 . . .

Also, I read somewhere that if you use an external monitor as a secondary display, the resolution on the external monitor cannot be higher than the resolution of the laptop screen. I'm guessing this is rubbish, as the video card independently sets resolutions for each screen.

14.1" 1400x1050:
1400 / ( (14.1")^2 * (1400^2)/((1400^2) + (1050^2)) )^(0.5) = 124 dots per inch

19" 1280x1024:
1280 / ( (19")^2 * (1280^2)/((1280^2) + (1024^2)) )^(0.5) = 86 dpi

24" 1920x1600:
1920 / ( (24")^2 * (1920^2)/((1920^2) + (1200^2)) )^(0.5) = 94 dpi

There is not much difference in resolution between the 19" SXGA and the 24" WUXGA. You should be fine reading off the big 24" widescreen.

The external monitor can be a secondary display and have a higher resolution than the primary screen (laptop screen), right?
