Screen shot - which screen would be better?
Screen shot - which screen would be better?
Out of the clear blue, as I was moving a window across the extended desktop to my laptop screen, I noticed a vertical red line on the screen. It runs the entire height of the screen about 1" from the right edge. There is also a shorter grey horizontal line that runs about 3" from the left edge and sits about 0.5" from the top edge. This is a Samsung screen.
Is my screen shot? I have pics, but no hosting. If someone cares to host, I can upload them.
Anyone know if Lenovo can be convinced to send an interim replacement while they repair/replace my laptop?

Which screen should I ask for?
Just got off the phone with Lenovo. I'm sending it in for service; they don't do loaners.
It probably won't help, but I'm going to ask for a specific screen as a replacement. I was going to request a Hydis panel, since the defective screen was a Samsung. Also, my first T60 had a Hydis panel which seemed slightly better than the Samsung (except for the brilliant green stuck pixel in the center). Anyone have a panel preference?
Also, while they've got the laptop, maybe I'll ask them to swap out the Panasonic battery for a Sony. Probably futile, but no harm in asking.

Re: Screen shot - which screen would be better?
Are you sure it is not a driver issue? Does it appear on bootup?serpico wrote:Out of the clear blue, as I was moving a window across the extended desktop to my laptop screen, I noticed a vertical red line on the screen. So you're saying you've got "dead lines" as opposed to "dead pixels"?
I have found even the latest ATI driver to be good, but still a little buggy and FWIW, my Samsung screen is brilliant and I wouldn't swap it for anything (haven't seen the other makes though).

It's difficult to see at bootup as the screen is black, but if I go into the BIOS, the red line is clearly there.astro wrote:Are you sure it is not a driver issue? Does it appear on bootup?

Yeah, I went from stuck pixels on the first T60 to a stuck line on this T60! If anyone wants to see pics, just PM me and I'll send 'em.
On a positive note, Lenovo service was very professional - they are sending me a box to return the laptop in for warranty service.

Thanks for the tip.FlexOink wrote:use http://www.imageshack.us/ to host images.
I switched the desktop to yellow so the line would show up better in a picture:

Lenovo has replaced the screen on my laptop. If I do a parts lookup, it shows "Parts shipped with your system". It shows a Samsung lcd, which is what this laptop originally came with. Is this list updated to reflect any parts replaced under warranty?
Is there any other way to confirm which lcd they have installed?

you can try some of these:
http://www.holin.com/cindex.html
http://members.datafast.net.au/~dft0802/downloads.htm
http://www.astra32.com/download.htm
also, AIDA16 should be included on the Ultimate Boot CD.
It was discontinued, so the version has not been updated in awhile.
Go ahead an create a CD and boot it. After the CD boots it should be F4 for the system utilities, then F1 for AIDA16.
AIDA16 loads Page 1 which is CPU diagnostic, then you page down to Page 15 for monitor information. I just tried it at work and it identified my Samsung LCD monitor. Sometimes, if it can't identify the panel it will say unknown, sometimes it won't even display Page 15, other times it gives the information.
