1953d6u with advanced dock? 7800gtx?

#1 Post by codek » Fri Jun 09, 2006 2:23 am

Even if I have a 945 gpu (onboard), with the advanced dock, can I run games with the 7800 gpu?

If so, for the most cost effective solution. Wouldn't it be to buy a cheaper t60 and upgrade ram yourself with the base gpu and get a dock with a 7800gpu?

I was thinking about returning this to get a 2623d7u but did not like the heat issue with the x1400.. with the 1953d6u.. the laptop does not heat up at all.

my laptop before this was a m1710 with a 7900gtx but it was way too big.. and nothing beats ibm build quality..

about the processor of th 19536u being only a 1.66 , I can upgrade to a merom later.. it seems like. and a 2.16 if I can't wait..

what do you guys think..

There has already been some quite detailed discussion on this forum about the Advanced Dock, including benchmark figures. Try doing a search.

One important thing to note is that the PCIe connector in the dock, even though it is full-length (PCIe 16x, to accommodate any card), it connects to the dock mainboard using only a PCIe 1x connector. This should affect the performance of the card somewhat -- mostly when it is sharing system memory?

I've read those posts and I think that you added some key posts to those threads but will it work? because I'm thinking about returning this to get a 2623d7u
