ThinkVantage Software Download

#1 Post by romka » Sat Jun 10, 2006 5:14 am

I am having a few problems with the new Beta office - which I've never had with other installations of Windows XP.

So I'm thinking of giving my T60 a fresh start - with Windows XP Pro.

Is there a way for me to install windows XP from the recovery console - WITHOUT all the ThinkVantage software?!

I had a look - i can download all the softare on ibm's/lenovos website - but the Active Protection System - which is said to only come pre-loaded.

Any way to install it post the installation of Windows?

Should I just use another copy of Windows PRO to install Windows- and use my product code?

Almost all of the thinkvantage tools, including the TPshocks program, are available for download at lenovo's site. I have the office beta working fine on my T60 with the default installation, so do you think maybe it's some other issue with your installation rather than the complete operating system? Seems kind of drastic to completely reinstall the OS. As for doing a complete fresh start, since lenovo doesn't give you actual operating system disks, you'll probably have to use a different install disk to reinstall.

No way to install yet without all the ThinkVantage stuff but its a feature that should be available soon on ThinkPads so you can pick what gets installed with the recovery (getting rid of Diskeeper Lite will be first on my hit list).

You can get the APS software here:

The only stuff you can't download in full are the third-party license stuff like WinDVD or Mutlimedia Center (RecordNow)

Make sure your copy of Windows will accept an OEM code.

There is a way that works, and costs virtually no money, but it does take some effort.

Yes, you can skip the step of integrating SP2 into your i386 folder.

If you try this, I would recommend using a CD-RW disk until you get the CD to boot properly, then burn a CD/R disk, as CD/R's last longer, and are more reliable.

Me too. What problems are you having? I am also considering a complete re-install.

at the end of the install - it would always complain to close a 'blank' program

outlook wouldn't import old profiles - where as other installations would

meh.
