I have a T60p (2007-83U) with Windows XP SP2 and it is a great laptop. However, it appears that there are some driver quirks, noteably with the trackpoint, keyboard, and fingerprint reader upon returning from standby (wakeup). I also have a USB mouse.

I have the system set so that when the lid is closed, it goes into standby, which always seems to work. However, when I open the lid there are sometimes.

When I'm prompted to swipe my finger, sometimes it will always say Failed. But usually it'll work after a while.

The bigger problems are with the keyboard and trackpoint. They simply won't work. Strangely enough, the Fn+keys work - so, I can put the system back into standby with Fn+F4. It happens pretty quickly, but sometimes there's a lag.

Unfortunately, sometimes it also takes several tries of waking up and standing by for the keyboard and track point to come back to life.

Although not confirmed, it seems like this odd behavior might be related to whether I have the AC power plugged in, or I'm running on batteries. For instance, if I close the lid on batteries, then plug in the AC power and open the lid, I have these problems. If I enter standby again with Fn+F4 and then wakeup again, all while running on AC, the keyboard and trackpoint *eventually* come back to life.

i guess the obvious first question is have you checked for updates and installed any driver updates..

i THINK that the last time i was testing and ran the system update applet that the trackpoint/touchpad driver was updated as well as the bios..
reason i ran it i was having trouble getting the new driver for the
atheros wifi card to "take"..

also, i had to update the system update to system update 2..

otherwise, on the 200794U i have, it would fail part way through the process..

FWIW, this is much easier than before when each update had to be done individually with, occasionally, some fairly cryptic instructions..

I'm all updated as far I know. I did notice some new drivers and the bios update. I might do another install just to see if that changed anything. I actually don't have all the IBM system utilities, since I did a fresh install. To be fair, though, I did notice the same symptons when I had first received the laptop from the factory.

Per my previous comments regarding a potential relation to wheather the AC power was connected, as of this morning I see no correlation. I opened the laptop lid this morning, after the system was connected to AC all night, and see the same problems. It took a couple of Fn-F4 hits to get things working.

One thing I've also thought of is that I have the touchpad disabled. I've enabled to see these problems persist.

I'll post back as things progress. Other thoughts always welcome.

most diehard thinkpad users disable the touchpad..
i do..
and i have not experienced any loss of trackpoint/keyboard after awakening from suspend..

Quick update...

As far as the strange problems upon wakeup, I did the BIOS update again, as well as reinstalling the drivers again. One key change with the drivers reinstall, was that I installed the Wizard/Manager and the seperate driver.

What may have made the difference, though, is what I did when I reinstalled the updated BIOS. I know that you're generally supposed to reload the BIOS after an upgrade to the factory defaults, which I hadn't done originally. So, I upgraded the BIOS this time, then did a factory default reset, and a cold reboot (battery out, replace, restart).

Things have been working very well since these processes.

I was also having bad fingerprint recognition. So, I rescanned my prints, and that's cleared as well. Thus as a general tip (which now seems obvious) if the fingerprint reader is giving flakey results, rescan the prints. I will also say that the fingerprint reader in general has improved since previous Thinkpad versions.
